In 2017 York Raceway closed its gates following a break down in talks between the guy that ran the track for the best part of 40 years and the land owner farmer.

Then a couple years later when we nearly give up hope Trevor Duckworth came along with a new plan. Trevor has ran straightliner events at numerous places such as Pendine sands, Jurby airfield on the Isle of Man, Ten of the Best at Elvington etc etc. To get a deal on the table to secure drag racing back at York £100k was required to be raised. Within a few months with the help and support of racers, locals and fans of the sport we achieved that and more.

The track has taken on a new name of Melbourne Raceway. Fresh quality tarmac has been laid 12 metres wide and 500m long. This is over 1/4 mile and initially will allow 1/8 mile racing with shut off. As profits are made they will be fully invested and the run off will be extended in 2021 to allow 1/4 mile racing again.

The date is set and tickets are now on sale on the Straighliners website for a 'lite' opening event on 8th and 9th August.

Places are limited to 100 racers who can bring 2 friends along and there are 500 spectator tickets available also. All tickets must be pre-booked.

This is a fantastic opportunity considering the current covid situation. I really hope some TVR's will be along to join me.

I will post some pics of the fantastic work that's been done already later.

Some pics and videos in no particular order but you can see the amount of work being done. The place will look very different and is guarenteed to be the best its ever been. The in road is also much improved so no excuses about pot holes damaging your pride and joy. Se you there!

Well done Derek, and all your friends.
I am not a fan of drag strip racing, as you know, but I fully support those who do love it and hope you all have a great time in 2 weeks time.
Good luck with the weather.

Spent many o sundays going up and down that place, in and on many different vehicles.
Glad to see it`s still going to entertain and empty a few pockets again.
