I'm using the ethanol proof stuff they sell at the mo. I can tell anyone reading this not to use the hose that TVR parts sells, that started cracking with less than 1000 miles use.

I’m not being picky here but the Gates hose shown on the link to the above site is R7 spec. My understanding is R7 is a lesser standard than R9 or to give it it’s full name SAEJ30R9 standard.
I know Gates is a well respected name but R9 is the standard that should be used - especially now petrol has in the main moved up to E10 standard. Just replaced some of my hoses - I used R9 Cohline hose which is another good make. Plenty of supply options with Google.

That's what I'm also using, although I've only had it a month so no opinion yet..

Cohline hi-spec. rubber fuel hose. Cohline Type 2240 rubber fuel hose features FPM/ECO spec rubber making it 100% fuel proof, with Aramid braiding within the wall of the hose. Then ECO outer layer which is abrasion resistant.
Can withstand petrol, E15 rated flexible fuels, Ethanol, Diesel and Biodiesel fuels. Has a working temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.

Isn't R7 the low pressure fuel pipe for carburettor engines, and R9 for high pressure fuel injection systems?I'm using the ethanol proof stuff they sell at the mo.
Gates Barricade is R14, definitely up to the job

According to the manufacturer its good upto E15 and B7 fuels.

We stock Gates Barricade, but haven't really ever 'sold' it as it's all for our own jobs (i.e. restos). You're right to hunt it down, though - it's the best stuff I've found to date. Just beware that Gates do more than one type of 8mm hose (some are non-Barricade), and two grades of Barricade itself; R14 T1 & R14 T2.
T1 is the lower pressure stuff, fine for carb engines and return systems, and the spec of R14 as a grade denotes that's low pressure only.
The T2 is a modified version, suitable for up to 225psi.
We use a mix of the two, and have done for years now. Anyone still using (or worse, supplying) SAE J30R9 after all the tales of horror found online needs to pull their head out of their arse.
It's not just that one that gives you issues, either. I have a table of the various hoses that we've had premature failure with. I keep meaning to convert it so that it makes sense to others (it's all in my shorthand) and publish it.

Sounds good bet, assuming to suitable disclaimers, well up for a name-and-shame approach! Hi Kitchski, I changed my hoses tank to pump/filter etc and thought I needed more to do the engine bay [I bought my hoses a couple of years ago, Goodyear for 12mm and Continental for 8mm ] They appear ok at the pump area but I found enough hose to do the front from this previous job. are you saying that the R9 is not up to the job or are you saying "Look out for fakes" cheers, John.

We fitted R9 Goodyear/Conti (they're both the same hose, in fact) to the first few cars after we did our big recall notice a few years ago, having discovered the issues with the ubiquitous R9 stuff. Haven't heard any problems with Goodyear/Conti, but they're cars we don't see frequently, if I'm honest, and once I discovered Barricade (which was new, at the time), I just switched to that as I felt more reassured putting Gates on customer cars.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
