Hi guys,

I have got some Tuscan seats I am about to have re-trimmed before fitting. But, I decided to place one in the car to look at space etc. It then occurred to me I would need to do something with the seat belts to stop it rubbing.

I would be interested to hear what others have done with their seat belts using these seats...

These may be of some use to just allow you to move it to one side?

I don’t know how tall you are but I believe the Tuscan seats sit a little higher than the standard Chimaera seats.

I am 6 foot two and with the standard seats my head just skims the roof panel. If the Tuscan seats raised me even by half an inch my head would be bang on to the underside of the roof panel.

Just a consideration.

Thanks Col - worth looking into, thanks.

Hi Peter, I’m also 6’2. Did you have the runners fitted? I was thinking I might just bolt to the floor to save some height where I can.

I ended up fitting Lotus Elise Seats with home-made brackets that kept the seat at its lowest point. I could then just about wear a crash helmet for track days.

Ah I recall seeing them on here I think now- Biscuit/cream and blue. I will have a look a doing something similar if they won’t just bolt in.

Thanks Peter.

Also, far superior support when cornering without the bouncing around on the original sprung seat.

IMHO, the original seats are rubbish......

Get the seat base foam thinned and some decent webbing on the underside and that will gain space.

You can reuse the Chimp runners if you like. Needs some spacing to work properly.

Or fit a standard bar runner. Still needs spacing.

Top of the seatbelt. Those plates on ebay will help the seatbelt retract properly but I am not sure if there is the room to angle them outwards.

A mod on the S cars is to fit a threaded bush instead of a plate. Same job but might be easier to angle. Philpot did a run on them recently. I used a rose joint instead but this moves about.

I bought my Tuscan seats with the Tuscan runners and they fit straight in, though you do need to drill new holes in the floor.

I fitted longer (100mm) front bolts and drilled right through the corners of the triangles in the chassis, thus locating the seats into something more solid than fiberglass. I also have a strip of metal welded across the chassis where the rear bolts go.

I have had no issues with the seatbelts - I have ignored the Tuscan mountings on the seats, and used the Chimaera mountings on the chassis.

If you want to be lower in the car, you can drive it with the seat base pad removed, which lowers you by about an inch. It also means the seat grips your posterior better, so i remove the base pads for track days.

The seats do also push you slightly further forwards in the car, so if leg room is important, you might struggle.

If you want to try mine in my car before you fit yours, just ask. I am just off the A1 at Newark on Trent.

Thanks both.

I hadn't thought about the seat foam - that's a great idea!

Can I just add that if you want to see how mine fit, I am happy to take a seat out whilst you are at my house to show you.
I am an hour from Corby, A43 and A1, if it helps. I am under a mile off the A1.

No problem Dave, always happy to help. I am here every day, "working" from home.
Just don't pick a day like today, as unbolting the seat involves lying on the drive, and mine is awash this morning!! rotate

Prob looking next week if that’s an option for you as I’m tied up with work over next few days - but yes let’s pick a good day!
