Sweaty Knob nearly Wrecked my Box.....!

Must be the weather, hot ally knob slipped out of my hand on a particulary aggressive change up tonight, only deft footwork prevented an explosion of cogs..

Anyone else got any juvenile sweaty palm stories?

I got a pair of flash driving gloves for my 40th. They do a very good job of stopping my knob from getting sticky.

They're in constant use at the moment. :-)

Try covering it with rubber - it will increase grip and tends to limit the mess caused by explosions if they do happen.

the rubber idea is great, i imagine it would also protect your knob from damage, tho watch out for it splitting if the box is a bit tight or you go at it a bit fast. if it splits you might want to get down to see your local specialist who will look at your knob, and maybe the box too, to make sure all is still alright.

Re: your knob, pull it off and grip the shaft firmly, it maybe a bit uncomfortable at first, but you'll soon get used to it.

I too suffered the shame of a sweaty knob until one day I recieved a deluge of emails offering me a solution imported from the USA at a very low price in easy to swallow pill form....

i to had the hot knob prob very hard to handel , did not Know what to do so ended up getting my knob drilled,lots of holes keeps your knob cool,
so the more holes you use the cooler your knob??

You probably have a dodgy box,i'd also check that your nuts aren't about to come off too.

Sometimes if you're input shaft isn't well lubricated and you're trying to force your knob especially on dog's boxes (not the woof woof variety you smutty lot!!) you can get all sorts of nasty frictional abrasions and teeth marks.

best method i've found is to gently ease the knob forwards until you feel it engage in the box, then you should feel it slide neatly home. If it doesn't slide easily then you've not got the right lubricant in there and I'd not force your knob until you'd opened the box up to lubricate the innards sufficiently.

Avoid over-revving at all costs in the early stages, as not all the lubricant may have penetrated all the way through the box. Remember there's only a few boxes out there with positive pressure lubrication, and all the others rely on splash lubrication on moving parts.

you may find that trying different gear may help your knob and box achieve dynamic smoothness you'd not thought possible before.
