Having had the 4.0 Chimaera for what seems like 'for ever' about 6 years now I think, and not really doing a great deal to it except making sure the oily bits are in A1 condition, which even ran to a complete engine rebuild last year :rotate: it's cosmetic state is begining to let the side down.
It really needs a new roof, as the guy who fitted a new rear window a few years back made a bit of a hash of it and the roof no longer sits right along the rear edge, it's watertight, but just looks a little tatty, and it is in need of a waft of paint over the nose cone, and passenger door to bring it back to A1 condition, I've had quotes for all this and it's going to cost £1300 to sort :)
Now the question is, do I spend the money on it, and maybe even a little more doing a few more cosmetic tweeks, or try and move it on at a bargin price, put my upgrade money to the sale money, add a bit more and get something a little newer :scratchchin: thing is there really isn't a great deal more money to add, and whats going to be as much fun, or any better? With a new arrival due next year ;) when I have a pocket full of cash theres a scary thought I could come home one day with something dull and boring :( and my 'fun car' days could be over for 18 years.
So in summary.....
Do I try to sell it looking rough, and get something newer?
Splash the cash on it, and sell it looking smart, before I batter the front end in chips.
Tart it up to better than when I bought it, find a kiddy seat that fits and enjoy it for the forseeable future :driving:

I think of it like selling a house:

Do you spend some money on a nice garden, a lick of paint, and a proper clean, or do you list it for slightly less?

I know which sells faster, although I'm not certain the same rules apply to cars.....
