Car not locking......

Hi all,

My car has/is developing a fault!

The key fob works to disable the immobiliser when I start the car, but it doesn't want to lock the car.

Sometimes if I open and shut the door a couple more times then it will lock straight away, but tonight I've tried 3 times and no avail.

Rather not leave it unlocked.... any ideas?

May be a red herring, but it could be due to the courtesy light switch located at the base of the door. If this is not contacting properly then the central locking wont work. Try putting something between the switch and door to improve the operation.

Thanks for your advice, unfortunately no change.

Then I sat in the car with the interior light on the correct setting, when I shut the drivers door the light went out,same for the passengers.

So I'm guessing the switch works, I pressed the central locking button on central pedestal door opener thing and it locked.

ie.couldn't be opened from the outside.

Any ideas anyone (I'm starting to think a new alarm may solve my problem, though this may be abit pricey and extreme!)

I have a similar problem.

The passenger side wasn't locking with the remote, or with the button in the car.

I've stripped the door lock and checked the motor, this seemed fine.

I've cleaned the sill switch for the interior light.

This has made no difference. So I've set the door lock to think that the passenger side is always locked. I'm guessing that there is no power getting through to the door lock?

When I lock the car (drivers door) I can hear the relay clicking, could this be the fault?

Hi Parrot,

I've just dismantled my key fob and the battery seems to have a metal strap over it that is soldered to the circuit board - any advice!

I'm assuming it's normal and I'm being a dimwit!

it is the original squareish TVR fob for the meta alarm

Mine is doing something similar. Alarm will arm (lights flash) but doors won't lock.
Mirror buttons work, central locking button inside works - (locks doors when I'm sat inside). Buttons in sills seem ok, except if I wiggle drivers side button I can hear a faint noise coming from door lock area.
Anyone any ideas.

That looks right. I renewed my keyfob batteries a short while ago. You need to remove the "blanking" PCB and that allows you to slide out the batteries and holder.

You need TWO batteries (I think I just went to Maplins).

Incidently, can you hear the solenoids thunking when locking from outside?

Felix I'd give the famous Carl Baker a ring and describe the symptoms. He's likley to know what it is and if you can sort it he will tell you how. If not he is based in Petersfield so not too far from you. He is a top man with lots of recommendations on this forum. If he can help he will.

The batteries slide out sideways from under the aforementioned metal strap after you have removed the blank PCB.

You need 2 x CR1220 which are currently £1.99 each at Maplin because I bought some last week for my own fob.

You might also find the following info useful:

So batteries changed.... lo and behold press the fob, drivers door clunks and the lights flash 4 times.

but no noise from the passenger door, it didn't lock and as I only ever check the drivers it probably hasn't been
locking for a while!

It still shuts properly and opens from the mirror and center console but doesn't deadlock,

is it a stuck solenoid and if so what does the deadlock solenoid look like (is it the same one as the one that works from the mirror switch etc)

Any help much appreciated

felix, you have the same prob as me, I only found out that the passenger door doesn't lock when I was getting home one night after walking to the pub and checked that the car was locked, (it was parked the opposite way around to usual, so it was the passenger door that I tried and it popped open and set off the alarm! I then had to run to the house, find my keys and disarm it! after several pints this took a while!)

I have stripped the lock in the b post, replaced the motor, and it still doesn't work (no power to the solenoid) I can here the relay click when I try to lock it, so maybe this is the culprit?

I hope someone can help us out as I've set the lock to be locked all the time (I can only open passenger door from inside now, and this doesn't look too cool!)

How did you make the door lock permanently, I'm going to have to do this until we can work out what the problem is.

Hi Felix,

I gained acess to the door latch in the b-post by lifting the carpet in the car, and I messed about with the door lock by pushing/pulling the central locking motor plunger up and down, I found out when it was locked (can't remember which it was now though!)

I apologise that this isn't very technical, but I hope its helps, just as I hope that someone can post a proper solution on here!
