Advice needed

I have a feeling the power steering is on its way out, when the car is cold the pump makes an aful moaning noise. However a few miles down the road the noise dissapears. I have checked for oil and plenty in the res. by trhe way is it the one at the inner wing on the drivers side ? in case i am looking on the wrong place.
My other querie is the mileomiter has just stopped working and the speedo doesent start to work until 25 m.p.h. Went to a local breaker who has plenty in stock byt is looking £150.00 for second hand one, is that a fair price or is he having a laugh ? Alternitavely can it be fixed ?

my speedo doesn't register under 20 mph either....and is sticky when it gets to x9,999...but hey, it goes like the clappers....!!!

I went through this with my Chimaera and it was air getting into the PAS circuit - caused by the rack seals blowing - you may notice that the oil in the resevoir gets throthy (black bottle bolted to plenum chamber on drivers side in my car). You may also see PAS fluid leaking where the pipes go into the rack. When it gets really bad you'll feel juddering through the steering wheel - recon rack cured mine.

The speedo by the way sound like a rip off.....

The resevior is the black pot on the top of the engine,I bet it's near empty.

The bible talks about the speedo being driven by a sensor on the drive shafts on later cars. On the gearbox on earlier. Maybe the clearance is too large to pick up the pulses at low speeds.

My Griff had the same speedo problem and it was just that the sensor (above the drive shaft where it meets the diff) gap was too large. Managed to get to it by removing the drivers side wheel and slackening off the nut and moving the sensor closer. If you put the back end on axel stands someone can then turn the other wheel and you can check that it is clearing the sensor. It only has to be about a 1mm gap. I adjusted it so it was touching and then slackened it off a tad. Has been spot on since I did it 4 months ago!! A new sensor was about £55 from the dealer. I think they changed the sensor about 94ish. My griff is 96 if your C is 94ish on its possible it will be the same.
