Oil Pressure Sender woes
Discussion
Hi folks
I realise there's about 12 billion threads on senders, but wanted to ask some advice for a bizarre problem I'm having.
I decided to replace the sender on my 400HC serp '96 as it was weeping oil, and bought a Telemetrix unit calibrated for Caerbont 0-100psi (I have Caerbont gauges). Now oddly enough, on ignition on engine off, the idiot light comes on as expected from the switch, yet, the needle rises drastically to 100PSI! On engine start (cold), the gauge moves to 60psi, with the indicated pressure increasing as the oil comes up to temperature (70psi warm idle).
Seeing this behaviour, I decided to try a spare cheapo VDO clone of the same thread pitch and calibration that I had lying around. Sure enough, 60 psi cold. 100psi off, etc. It's almost like something's wired backwards?
To note, I had the normal inaccurate readings before from the original TVR sender, although 0psi indicated as 0psi. The sender worked perfectly, just started weeping oil.
This is the Telemetrix unit I bought:

Have I used the wrong oil pressure sender x2? Can I rectify this by changing the gauge polarity by removing the dash top? Any insight appreciated! Would much rather have it display something closer to the correct oil pressure rather than resort to one from TVR parts (that and I'd rather not have to buy another sender).
TIA

Bump with a bit of a development. I spoke to one of the guys at Merlin Motorsport who confirmed after the original TVR sender part number that I did in fact have the wrong sender. So I suppose now I'm back to square one. Merlin called Caerbont who suggested this would be the correct sender: (CBC-OS-18)

Since I suppose part of this exercise is to get a bit of a better indicative oil pressure from my TVR, which oil pressure sender do I buy assuming what TVR Parts sell is also just as inaccurate?

The following thread might help you. I contains info on a alternative send and the resistance measurements that match the sender to the gauge in our cars.

My sender is still working, nice and leak free after 1500 miles so far.

Awesome thanks - bought and will give it a go in place of the tvrparts one upon arrival :-)https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

[quote=geordiepingu]No joy! I suppose it’s going to be the tvr parts one after all?
Just a thought, if you are getting full scale deflection - going all the way to the right - then the signal might be grounded. Might be worth checking your connections again. There is that other connection for the low pressure light that might be confusing things.
