but is there a definative list of changes from the circa 1999 model to the 2001 model. I know the changes that filtered through onto the 98ish models but I am really wondering if paying the extra for a 2001spec is worth it.
Obviously newer the better when buying second hand cars but this is looking at it soley from a specification point of view.
So far all I can say for definate is:
Headlights faired in and the seats were upgraded.
The "bible" doesn't go into any more details.

I guess that you already know the answer to this one. It's hard to find two TVRs exactly identical so a definitive list would be difficult to compile and near on useless. Then people start modifying them... Only you can say whether it's worth it. I would say that if you find one that you're happy with then buy it.
Fair point I was just wondering if there were any other changes other than those I mentioned that all 2001+ spec models would have i.e different interior equipment as standard. Badly worded question on my part. I appreciate they are all different and thats one of their best features, that they can be unique.
Personally I'm not a great fan of the faired-in headlights, but each to their own.
The important thing is that you get one that has been well-fettled and had its niggles sorted. Many people would say that by 10k miles this has been done, so be wary of, say, a 2001 car with "only 4k dry miles on the clock". Chances are it will have only been used infrequently and not been fully sorted.
Don't be too put off by minor things that can easily be retrofitted, which includes the better seats. These can be sourced from breakers yards from other TVR models (I think either the Cerbera or Tuscan seats fit, but you'd need to check).
If you want aircon then buy one with it already fitted - retrofitting is not economically viable.
