Exhaust manifold

Had my Chim for over two weeks now everything going perfect including the weather.
However I did notice an annoying ticking coming from the top end of the engine which I suspected was a leaking exhaust manifold, took the car to Scole Engineering who confimed that this was the case.
On checking the service records I discovered that there had been a similar repair caried out at 21,000 miles ( the car has done 32,00 miles now).
Is this a common problem and if so is there any known method for making this a more permanent repair?
Got to say since having the car it has generated more interest than any other car I have owned.

Are you sure it`s not just the gaskets? If not, it`ll probably be leaking in the middle of where the four pipes go into one!
We had both manifolds (if one goes, the other is probably not far behind) replaced last year but luckily managed to get some little used secondhand ones (and hence much cheaper) while being serviced at Offords.
There have been threads on here advising how "gum gum" exhaust sealant was stuffed into the centre part of the four pipes with a knitting needle etc plus other engineering ideas that seemed to do the trick long term. Have a search on here. I`m not sure if welding is possible because of where it is but I might be wrong

Be VERY pleased it`s just gaskets!! It is a normal ailment but there are more hardy gaskets (over the standard variety) around I believe. Hopefully someone will know more than I

For a TVR you need the twin gaskets (each gasket covers a pair of exhaust ports).
Not sure about that Peter, I recently had one of my manifolds off to weld up internally and refitted it with the individual steel composite gaskets without any probs. They were a perfect fit in terms of the port profiles, but perhaps some of the engines with more heavily worked heads might have larger ports (say the 5l?) is that what you meant? It may be worth checking that the manifold bolts haven't become loose. My 450 seems to have an annoying habit of making the bolts vibrate loose (despite spring washers!), especially the front off side pair. Nipping these back up normally eliminates the ticking. Unless the gasket has gone, worth a quick check though.

Recieved a good tip from HHC about checking manifolds for leaks.
If your taking one off to replace the gasket, lay the manifold down and fill it with water, this will show if it's leaking anywhere. Last time i had my nearside manifold off, this test showed that there was a hole where the four branches meet just before the primary-cat.
Hope it's just a loose bolt or the gasket.
