I am just replacing my manifolds with a used set which have had the pre-cats removed. They have cleaned up nicely and I was considering painting them before they go back on.

Has any one has success with the POR-15 High Temperature Manifold Paint

Hi.

When the manifolds were off my car I had them bead blasted and even used the POR metal prep on them before I sprayed them with POR15.

Sadly it hasn’t lasted at all on the manifold close to the exhaust ports although it’s been fine on the Y piece.

I may have done something wrong but I think even this paint can’t cope with the TVR manifolds. Ceramic coating will but it’s very expensive.

Regards Chris.

I’ve not used ceramic coating on my Chim, but do intend to.

I have used it to good effect on a competition car.

As well as aesthetic benefits, it will also help reduce under bonnet temperatures

I visited Eann Whalley (rip) a couple years ago when I collected my turbo kit and he had his manifolds and turbo Y piece ceramic coated in white. It looked excellent quality and he swore it made a significant difference to under bonnet temperatures.

I would like to have mine done soon but cant remember who he said did his.

Anyone recommend a place?

There's Zircotec near Oxford, if you're wealthy.
Other ceramic coatings and coaters are available.
I had mine 'Cerakoted' by Hi-spec Coatings in West Sussex.

Eann had his done at Camcoat in Warrington from memory.

I did a DIY set with VHT spray which did a great job. I built an insulated charcoal heated oven out of brick to bake them off after spraying. I only ran them for a year before upgrading to some performance manifolds. The coating was still in great condition but white is a hard colour to keep looking great and the coating is kind of a matt finish which doesn't wipe down so easily.

I used the silver POR height temp paint on my manifolds a couple of years ago, probably done 4K since.

I did have them sand blasted first but the paint looks good, and gives a nice smooth silvery finish it’s much easier to use than the standard POR15 which can be a bit tricky... and you can paint it on a bit thicker which saves time.

Just make sure you stir and stir and stir some more before applying as all the silver sinks and sticks to the bottom. I put a few coats on, I can’t really remember but probably 4 or so. Also be sure to use the POR degreaser.

It’s lasted pretty well so far, I had noticed a small bit had peeled off last year only in one place (probably a missed spot with the degreaser, you can just about see where this was in the pictures) Otherwise it has easily taken the heat from my cerb and still looks perfect.

I also used it on my callipers as I had a load spare, it was trickier to use on them and I had to bake in between coats in the oven as for some reason when doing these it took ages to dry... they still look good though, there is no problem with this paint taking the heat or it’s durability (so far).

Have posted some pics for you, sorry they’re not the best it’s a bit cramped in my garage!!!
