sleeve or half sleeve exhaust
Discussion
ask yoursevles: do you want all your neigbours having sleeved exhausts? would your living area be a valuable area if the whole street would drive around with sleeved exhausts?
sleeved exhausts are "cheap" and the sound is "cheapish" too, the noise is disturbing and the sound is awfull.
if you want an "improved" exhaust note, buy a proper sports exhaust which boosts the burble and keeps noise-level in acceptable range.

Half sleeve is best imho. My Chimaera had the factory 'sports exhaust' which was half the size of standard. I changed that latter after turbo build and installed two custom made 'cherry bombs' which were perfect.
Made to whatever length you require and reasonable price too. I had a full sleeved Griffith and it sounded agricultural for me at tickover/low revs and boomed at motorway speeds.

Sports exhaust I’ll be damned

So was the box half sized as in just cut shorter Mac or altogether smaller.
I agree with this and the post above. It’s really not very nice and the drone over 2600 revs is nauseous after a very short time.
I went back from fully sleeved to fully perforated as I had two exhausts and it didn’t take long to decide to sell the sleeved exhaust on. It just felt like I was driving an overly loud Kitcar that was not actually as powerful as it sounded and ruined any idea of a quiet Sunday drive.
I’d come home at night and you could hear it 1/2 a mile away and I’m on tickover!
Cherry bombs of the ACT sports exhaust on the other hand has a deep rasp to it rather than just a lot of uncontrolled noise, it’s louder but resonation is far better controlled.
If you fully sleeve it be prepared to have to open it again. I’d go half sleeved but actually if doing all that I’d replace the box with Cherry bombs.
Fully sleeved ones often come up for sale at not a lot of money, why not buy one and see, if you don’t like it then sell it on again?
I have a fully sleeved and like the sound, as do many others, I don’t consider it excessively loud or have any issues with droning noises, we go out just for the fun of driving , maybe do 200 miles in a day and have no issues with being too loud

Half sized mate, same diameter but half the length.

OP; Horses for courses and down to personal taste, mean no offence anywhere.

I'd say go to a meet and have a listen,,,, but,,,,,,,,,,,

Have to say I am not a fan of sleeved exhausts. It is not that they are loud it's that the sound is so harsh and as a result destroys the RV8 signature sound.
If you want something more than Factory then try the ACT cherry bomb which is louder than standard but very mellow and, IMHO, enhances the RV8 signature.

I wouldn’t have thought it would be hard to source a smaller box from a different vehicle and fit it in there trying to achieve a similar result but for all the faff you might as well fit Cherry bombs and be done with it

I’ve had every variation spoken about and the best of all is, pre cats out, main cat in and cherry bombs. I’ve the ACT ones fitted now but have had eBay versions in the past. Just as good sound as the ACT and cheaper if you can DIY.
One option is to open the box and wrap the perfect exhaust, half its length and see if you like it, then wrap the full length for the sleeved sound. I expect you won’t like it. It does spoil the car, you can’t hold a conversation stood next to it on idle.
If you pay for someone to do it choose carefully.

I paid good money for a TVR specialist to convert my last TVR to a sports exhaust and got this.
They even had the nerve to autograph their crap. Pretty sure they have gone to the wall now.

I have fired up mine today with a de-catted Clive Y, pre cats out and standard exhaust - and thought it sounded absolutely spot on!!!
Sensible words, I wouldn't want anything noisier than this combination unless you are out there to attract the wrong sort of attention.Generally I am a fan of stealth mode although a little character can be desirable.
