Chicken under the bonnet!

Was lazing in the front room the other day, when I heard what sounded like a large bird trapped in a mangle. Thinking the cat had struck lucky again, I went round to the front of the house, only to find the noise eminating from the front of my car!

On closer inspetction, the noise seemed to be coming from the (domed) speaker on the RHS behind the grill.
I assume this is the speaker for the alarm? Didn't matter what state the car was in - locked/unlocked, on/off - it was still screaming away. I unplugged the speaker, but obviously this is not an ideal fix.

Has anyone else had their Chim sqeal in this way? Could it be simply damp somewhere in the alarm circuit? If so, where is going to be the most likely area? (WD40 and hairdryer at the ready!)

Don't get in a flap.

You may just find the problem is caused by a bad connection in the plug and socket. Mine was.

Take it apart clean it up spray with WD40 and if working tape up with self-amalgamating tape.

It should then be one less thing to worry about.

agreed. mine did this once and it was the connector for the siren. took it apart ( wearing headphones) cleaned it and OK since...
