I have been looking at the indicators on military Land Rovers and they appear to come in two different types, one type screws in the other type has screws going through the lens? Can anyone tell me if these screw in type are the same as the Griffs?

Is it true that the indicators lenses are "bonded in"?

Cheers!

'and have do not have screws through them'

That would appear to cover everything!

I have a set of clear indicators on the way to me so I would be very interested to hear how they get the originals off and the new ones on?

Sorry, finger problems. No screws, and bonded in. The garage reckon they went in therefore they have got to come out. I will post back the results.

Because of all the mods my car has had the mechanics run when they see me come in.... strange!

I have a mate who works for the MOD and he is going to "borrow" me a couple to see if I can fit them. Of course I will give them back when I've finished with them.

I was wondering if it would be possible to cut the others out (put in orange bulbs) and bond the clear ones in??

I did mine (whiskey tumblers) the originals just press into the inner wing. You will have to remove the flap in the inner wing to refit.

Not on my motor (96 Griff). The light units (I assume we are talking about the front indicators, not the side ones) are glassed in. They need to be cut out and the new ones glassed back in. I've had this done during a front end respray so I don't know exactly how much it costs.

Before I had mine done, I sprayed the front indicators with Bolt on Boy tinting spray. The indicators are bright enough so that you don't notice the difference when they flash but it removes the orange look when they are not on.

I changed my front indicators for clear ones on my '95 Griff about 3 weeks ago - did them myself and it only took about 1 hour.

The old ones were bonded in so all you have to do is give them a hard push and they will fall backwards into the wings. Remove as much of the old silicon as possible from the wings, as you want as cleaner join as possible. All you have to do is place the new units in the same position and hold it there for 24 hours while it sets - problem is the units want to fall backwards, away from the correct position. I have a brilliant tip for this....

Buy two sticky backed plastic coat hooks from B&Q for about 80p each. Fix one on each lens. Bond the units in and hook some string/flex/chord around the coat hooks and attach the other end to something that won't move. You don't need to tie it tightly - just enough to keep it in place.

It really is an easy job. Just have plenty of kitchen roll handy cos that silicon gets everywhere!

Where did you get the clear lenses from? I assume you did the side repeaters too.....were they as 'handy', also supplied from the same place?

Thanks,
Jim.

Got the front indicators from my local TVR dealer - TVR Centre in Arkley - for about 15 quid each plus the black silicon. They had to order them in but it only took a couple of days. I also got the clear side indicators from them but they were the wrong type so I got the right ones from Halfords (Ford fiesta) for about 12 quid I think.

Side ones just pop right off - they took about 3 minutes each side!
