Chimaera Bluetooth Distributor
Discussion
I'm am toying with the idea of a new dizzy wanting to keep original look but going with Bluetooth mapping capability.
I know of 123 tune and mallory both previously discussed.
But has anyone seen or used the Progression ignition unit - seems to need full vacuum and not just ported though.
I have read a few posts on the benefits of this.

I assume that this would fit as this was the basic engine from way back.

Also being HEI it has the coil in the cap which makes it much bigger.... may not have space near the plenum too.
The mapping function however looks impressive more complete and potentially easier to set up than 123 tune.
I have emailed them - to see if they have anything that fits without HEI cap - who knows ?

for the price of this or the other unit above you can install a dizzy-less ignition , like megajolt.
than you have a "real" fully mappable ignition, incl. 3D ignition curve.

Yeah, but you still need 'something' in the dizzy hole to drive the oil pump.for the price of this or the other unit above you can install a dizzy-less ignition , like megajolt.

A friend of mine installed the megajolt but kept the 14CUX. For some reason it messed with the idle, and nothing showed up on the very early versions of Rovergauge. Unfortunately the car was not in the UK long enough to get to the bottom of the issue. I've also tried the Aldon Amethyst, but it misfired. I believe the reason was you get RF interference in the coil trigger head in the dizzy when the coil fires from the arc in the dizzy cap. This normally does not matter as the point of trigger and coil firing are pretty much the same on the stock system. It all falls apart if you electronically advance or delay the coil pulse out side the magnetic trigger pulse period, as the RF pulse from the arc in the distributor cap is now picked up by the dizzy coil and causes an extra false pulse to the Amethyst.
The guy in the US came back with a posting for a Rover V8 distributor (not HEI)

and I have decided to take a dive and at least have a play with this option despite the investment.
I understand the arguments for omex / megajolt etc thanks to all your feed back but I do want to keep the under bonnet looking as standard as possible.
Will eliminate the ignition amp however which I believe is a good thing.
It requires full manifold vacuum so I am planning to "T" of the fuel regulator line and will try to find an elegant way to deal with the the ported vacuum valve on the plenum.
I was tempted with the 123 tune option but the set-up, camshaft rotation values etc, seems more complicated and there does not appear to be a way to modify the advance curve for each vacuum point and rev position in the matrix.
The progression unit appears to be fully 3D mappable and you can change each cell or range of cells - the only drawback being the distributor assembly.......... :-)

The aim is to maximise the performance of my current (MA best guess) fuel map and the new Bosch 045 injectors.
From the youtube vids and tech info that I have found it seems that you can have as many timing maps as you want with live instant programming from smartphone/tablet.
I figure 1 for emissions (12° idle for regulatory testing), one for RON98 another for RON100 etc.
Will definitely need to book a dyno session to get this all set-up right.
Following many discussions and comments from CoG on ported v full vacuum and higher advance at idle I am wondering if lower running temperatures will have any long term detrimental effects on my cats ?? ( Yeah I know .....take them out of the equation... but ! )
