What is happening?
I have read a number of threads in the past few days where people, either asking reasonable 'newby' questions or making a simple mistake like offering their wheels for sale after extolling the delight of a wheel upgrade, receive flame-mail from those we look to for advice and guidance with our new P&Js.
I think after last week tolerance should be high on our agendas.

You shouldn't need to be apologising to anyone and I cant imagine who you might have offended! I think if people who are making genuine contributions start feeling that they need to apologise for saying the wrong thing or making a simple error etc , then something is seriously wrong with this forum. The whole object of this site IMHO is that people with shared interest and enthusiasm should be able to ask whatever they like, without the fear being roasted for making beginners mistakes or admitting their foibles, cock-ups etc. The only people who should be apologising are those who for whatever reason make offensive / hostile / humiliating remarks (although to an extent that should be covered by the moderators).
I think the best motto for everyone here is - If you havent got anything constructive to say then say nothing ! .
Nobody minds a bit of good natured ribbing but no one should be going off feeling scalded / humiliated even if they have made some obvious goof.
I think the least we owe eachother, as people who take the trouble to register and make contributions is courtesy, not everyone is a techno-wiz or champion spanner rattler but all have something to add.
We may get a bit frustrated at the 10th time a FAQ is posted anew
but it only takes a gentle redirection in most cases to remind people that its worth doing a search sometimes. I dont know if anyone else notices this but I find every time the weather turns hot especially on the road that people in general become a good deal more aggressive / intolerant
. Wonder if the same applies to PistonHeads?? Next we'll be getting sin-binned for typo's

It works, believe me! The moderators do a great job IMHO. Now, to answer the original question - am I too hot? That would be telling!
Personally, I've always found the chaps on Chimaera very helpful and accommodating with the exception of one incident.
Agree with everything here. When I bought my TVR, I'd had no cause to look at the engines of any of my previous motors (and in most cases couldn't due to fixed plastic covering/engine being inaccessible somewhere in the middle of the car).
However, it was through the advice and patience of fellow PHers that I learned to tell my alternator from my elbow, all given in an environment where I wasn't afraid to ask (even stupid) questions.
As Tahiti says, not everyone at PH is a master mechanic, but in an age where most people will never even get (or want) to see their car's engine, we should surely be encouraging others to get greasy with their spanners.

I wasn't suggesting for a minute that I'd expect anyone to keep tabs on all the posts and I agree that the moderators do a great job
However I would tend to regard the Abuse Button as the "PistonHeads Red Telephone" - only for use when you want to nuke someone who is really out of order. Nor do we want a "police state" where we are all tiptoeing around being PC, Dog forbid 
This more about applying a little tolerance and treating others as you might wish to be treated.
