I have an Odyssey Extreme PC925 battery fitted in my boot. My question is are these batteries ok to be on a trickle charger??

As my battery charger seems never to reach full charge on trickle charger and recently got another trickle charger and had same issue. Touching battery it is warm and looks like it has swollen potentially.

I have no issues with the car starting or running. Any experience with these batteries or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

I've had 2 Odyssey PC680 batteries in my Griff for the last 4 years always on a trickle charger in the garage, no problems so far

My PC925 has been permanently connected to my Accumate since I bought it seven years ago without any problems.

This. The charger you are using is very probably not suited to AGM batteries, most modern ones from a certain price/quality level on will automatically detect AGM batteries and adapt their charging strategy accordingly.

Well I have an Accumate charger but recently brought a Maypole, which has automatic detection and can select AGM.

I had the car on charge for days and both chargers never show full charge. Will look at the battery again tonight. The battery has never been flat and has had only light use.

Well battery has packed up, as you can see it has swollen...

New one order on europarts yesterday and hopefully will be fitted today. Hopefully new one will be ok with trickle charge...

I would be inclined to say that's been caused by incorrect charging over a period rather than a batt defect , I would be sure to use a charger with the AGM setting like linked I know a classic car guy with a few of these and they just work , yes you can buy dearer but ..............I have one and a Nico used used regular [url]|https://thumbsnap.com/e9jKAGDb[/url10:15[/footnote]

Me too

Battery has been cooked

Unless alternator is overcharging and doing the cooking

That is the charger I got:

My accumate is old but never showed old battery as fully charged:

Have new battery fitted and car started...

Had my Accumate connected but still showing not fully charged. I will put Maypole on tomorrow to see but also have another car battery in garage and will connect my Accumate to it to see if it is that is gone...

Alternator is standard and was reconditioned when car was restored recently.

Quite a few of the cheaper trickle chargers are designed to charge an AGM using the 'cold/winter' setting; three of mine are like that, as I found out when I read the instructions wink

Worth checking the charging voltage now or if another battery gets cooked, intermittent overcharging is a problem that isn't easily spotted

Have had new alternators overcharging

I had mine on an Accumate for a few years and it eventually cooked the battery. Now have a Ctek charger which goes to a maintenance pulse cycle after 7 days which is kinder I think.

Well my Accumate charger showed full charge this morning:

Never did this with my original battery. However I will start car and see what alternator gives to the battery.

My gut feel is it was the battery, but also won’t leave battery on 100% charge and give it some time off as well.

Takes much heat to nearly burst open a battery case

Why not contact Odyssey, they might be very interested and you might get a free battery out of them

Edited to add, Odyssey would know that the battery has been cooked by something, ignore the above
