Does anyone have a picture of the wing mirror wiring to the multi plug, showing the colors by any chance?
I had my wing mirrors rebuilt by a company but got them back with the block off and the ends crimped with long bullet connectors. The plug is in the car but the colors don't match up with the wires from the mirror.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi Philpot. Thanks for the pic but it doesn't correspond with what I have. I do have the Steve Heath book, although my one only has 204 pages.

My rebuilt wing mirrors have 7 wires coming out of them...2 pairs of two and one cluster of 3:
one pair - black, black/black white trace
the other pair - black solid x2
the group of 3 - white, brown, black (all solid, no trace)

The plug connector in the door has all sorts of colors on it that don't match the colors above.

If anyone has a pic of the plug in the door, showing the wire colors on either side would be a great help.

Are they the "rubber band" mirrors?

Have you taken the mirror glass out to see what goes where? Even if later "Corrado" mirrors I can't see why there would be 7 wires unless you have the door buttons in your mirrors.

Just out of curiosity, never heard of anyone having mirrors rebuilt, what was wrong with them?

Forgive me for questioning that page from the bible but is it correct for all cars?

The heated mirror elements seem to have the wires UO (on my car this is blue & orange) connected to each other but have no supply (?) B is obviously the black earth return but the diagram shows no supply to wire UO.

If you have the mirror door release buttons, it is a facelift version so is the joystick the same wiring as the early ones?

Although I don't know the key for that diagram, I have had to attend to my mirrors in the past (2000 reg) so noted all the colours. There is a 5 pin connector for the mirrors in each door. The wire colours for the driver's side motors are the top 3 wires of this connector:

Brown >> Yellow / black
White >> Red / blue
Black >> Pink

Passenger side:

Brown >> Black / Orange
White >> Grey
Black >> Green

The heated mirror wires both sides form the bottom 2 wires of the 5-pin connectors. In both sides, these are:

Black >> Black
Black >> Blue / Orange. This is the heated element and these could be connected the other way round without a problem.

Yes there are 3 black wires at each connector!

The door release buttons are the ridiculously thin and flimsy blue wires that go to a separate 2 pin connector. This connector will go through the door mounting hole OK without removing the pins.

Hope this is of help. Central TVR do a lot of mirror conversions so they may be worth asking but they may not be keen to divulge how it's done.

Hi

I have my doorcard off my 97 4.0 at the moment, so a few pics on my offside connectors. Glad I did as I noticed a nasty nick in the w/o wire. Hope it helps a bit

Yes, they are the rubber band mirrors, and they have buttons in them for door opening.

They were rebuilt because they were broken at the base and the sprayer guy I used (rec'd by my local TVR garage) broke them quite a bit when taking them off.

Thanks Penelope & Badger. I'll have a look again at the wires and see if they match up.

Those colours don't match anything I have seen before.

7 wires could be right.
3 for the motors
2 for the door release
2 mirror demist

If you can test the wire groups and see what they do I may be able to identify the car wire colours to connect too.

Start with the pairs.
test for resistance. If there is a resistance on a pair then that is most likely the demist. If the pair are open circuit then press the release button and see if you now have a circuit.

Test the group of 3 wires for resistance If 2 of those wires are low resistance you are testing 1 motor. If the resistance is higher then you are testing through 2 motors.

Report your findings and I will try and help.

Steve

Ok then, not nice someone cutting the plugs off. Plugs nowhere to be found?

Afraid not. I found the mirrors in their component parts in a bag when I picked the car up. He also managed to break off the bonnet stay boss on the bonnet. And cut off 4 inches of the windscreen seal. Suffice to say I was not happy.
