Morning All,

The sender unit on my '93 Chimaera has failed (the straight type), and it appears that they are no longer manufactured. Does anyone know of an alternative sender unit that can be substituted or modified?

Have you spoken with Racetech Direct?
They are very proactive in researching stuff like this. They even get parts made when the originals no longer exist (servos, handbrake cables etc.).

Steve

ETA Do you have photos of the unit in question?

Hi Steve,

Many thanks for your help - yes, speaking to Mark at Racetech, in the hope that ETB can repair it...

Apparently they feel the cost of re-manufactuing the casings is too expensive.

Will keep you posted!

Without seeing a photo I thought it might be like this, but the reference to straight type and re-manufacturing the casting means I'm wrong.....Yes?

Mine's slightly different - 70mm across with five fixing bolts....

Physically that is the same as the ones used in the 'S' and goes in the side of the tank. Held in a housing by a cam-lock ring and rubber seals.

That's interesting. In the Chimaera it's mounted at the top of the tank, but from what you're saying, with some modification, it should work?

If you mean the one I said is for the 'S' then no it will not work. It requires a machined (or pressed steel) housing which is an integral part of the tanks manufacture.

You also need to be wary of the resistance range of any sender you want to try. The resistance range has to match the gauge. Having said that you can buy a 'Gauge Wizard' box of electricary which will match the two.
