Drive car the other week parked up switched off. When can to start turned ignition fuel pumps whired radio on but nothing from the engine. No clink from starter motor nothing. Looked under the bonnet swore then tried again. After a couple of goes engine started. Took it back to where it lives. Started again next time fine but then when tried to start again nothing again. Bounced the car up and down and it started! But since that drive it won't start again. Assume it could be a loose wire or connection but any ideas where ?

TVR mis wired the immobilisers and put the high starter solenoid current through a much lower ignition current relay, so the relays fail and make the starting intermittent. I think the failed immobiliser is about the biggest reason for engines that wont start in the TVR world.

yes as above !!

if no power is getting to the starter motor the alarm box is holding it back , the Meta (and most insurance approved alarms ) have two "separate" circuits one for fuel pump one for starter

btw the relays that this relates too are "not" the ones in the footwell (which are still worth checking) but actually inside the alarm box and are resin filled so not changeable

cure = by pass the starter circuit at the alarm box i.e before it passes through alarm box to starter or new alarm

had to bypass mine before as would sometimes start sometimes not completely random hitting the dash hard on left side started mine for a week or so until i removed the dash top !

had another chim that did the same but had a click-clunk at starter so was not the alarm but faulty starter as power was getting there so test for this first !

Best to check crank wire voltage at the starter motor solenoid before possibly having to delve deeper

There was a recent thread with another Chim with a similar problem. Pretty sure the RAC man removed and cleaned the earth connections on the starter motor and solved his problem. An easy and cheap check to do first. As above though, when I had the same issues it was down to the immobiliser, disconnected the movement sensor under the dash and no more issues.

yes thats why its important to inderstand if power is getting to starter or not ?

if power getting there cant be alarm , if its not getting there most likely culprit is alarm !

can normally tell as when you crank its completely dead on key or you can hear a click or clunk , if can hear click/clunk power is getting to starter meaning wont be alarm !
