Cam time !

hi guys
whats the going rate for a camshaft change on a 4.0 chim?i think mines starting to say goodbye at 48 thou.
who could you recomend in the northwest.

Cam, follower and timing gear I would budget about £400 for standard cam or a bit more if you go for an uprated cam (because it'll need a vernier adjustable timing gear). And about a day of labour at whatever rates you're charged - round here I'd allow about £500 for the labour.

sounds about right,i've rung SFR in stockport and his quoted about a grand.

light thottle,when the exhaust is'nt so prominent,e.g 2nd gear 2500 revs you hear a steady even rattle.not loud yet but it is progressive,under anything like reasonable pressure on the loud pedal at the moment its o.k.

i'e just paid 295 plus vat for an uprated cam and followers from John Eales

You need to watch the vernier timing gear as it doesnt fit the serp engines without you removing the cam retaining plate. If you do that the cam moves ( despite what some well known peeps say!!!) and that buggers the timing gear and cam and possibly block quite quicky.

JE do a steel timing gear machined to match the cam so you dont need the vernier...




so either way an easy 1k if you get someone to do it for you
