I've been loitering without intent in the background for a month or two. I would've joined in earlier, but I wanted to put a photo of my car on my profile and, despite (or maybe because of) being in the computer industry for over 20 years, it's taken me this long to work it out.
Now I've got this far, I'll try to post a couple of 'Spotteds'.

Interesting one to do some forensic speculation on in the absence of a reply. It has the 500 wheels, but is a '99 car when most sold were 450s (as mine is a '99 450 with the 500 wheels!!)
. My money is on it being a 450 - best balance of power and usability IMHO. So, which is it Andy? Good looking car - the silver suits it well, although blue ones are faster....

Yes, Nick, you're right, it is a 450 with 500 alloys. In the absence of any history (which I'm still awaiting from the previous owner and the two garages that serviced it) I don't yet know why it has those wheels. However, it isn't silver, the photo is poor. It is actually Crystal Green, which I'd like to touch up but I've no idea where the colour came from either.

I found the 500 I drove too lumpy in traffic to be a good daily driver and was assured I'd 'grow out' of the 4.0 after a few months - hence my balance comment. However, as someone who as owned every combination of age and engine, you're probably best placed for the definitive ruling - What say you?!

Let me start by saying they're all flippin' brilliant!!
Lot's of people reckon the 500 is a bit messy as a daily driver, but I've never agreed with this.
I think the extra oomph of the 500 is the dog's. I've had 4 500s, a 450 & a 400, and never found the 500 to be any more tricky.

Couldn't agree more. It's just that 1999 450s with the 500 'Estoril' Alloys are obviously and irrationally the best
- ask Andy! Usually, the one under your right foot at any one time will be the best?
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. As I've already discovered, this being my first (but certainly not last) TVR, TVR land is fun and it looks like PH land is too. Here's looking forward to chipping in from time to time. Also, we're hoping to go to the next West Lancs meeting at the Rigbye Arms and, as I'm a Yorkshireman, we'll probably drop in on a meeting at Drig too.

Pretty certain its a BMW colour - fern green or something - I'm on the trail of it myself - I have a carbon copy of your car!!

Hi Trellis, hi Claire. I've seen the BMW colour you mention, but it looks a bit 'green' if that makes any sense. The nearest thing I've seen is a Jaguar colour and something on a Nissan Micra - is that swearing on here? - but they look a bit greener too. The ebay advert that I bought it from mentioned Olive Verde but I thought that related to the interior colour; maybe it was suuposed to be a description of both inside and out. Anyway, once I get through to the right department in Blackpool I should be able to find out.
It depends on a lot of things, strentght of the light reflecting and the actual paint.
Even though they look similar no two cars are the same. Case in point is Dads ex Griff - the pearlescent white griff (press car). TVR used the same paint mix but no other car came out the same colour as the rest.
The only other option is Polar Silver IIRC
