Drivers Door Mirror Loose
Discussion
As the title says, my drivers door mirror has come loose. I've seen plenty of topics on here about how to get it off, how the grub screw comes loose and how to fix it. But I can't seem to find how to get the actual mirror off the tripod to get better access.
I've the speaker out and cables disconnected. Pictures attached of the stage I'm at. Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks, but I can't get access to the grub screw unfortunately. The tripod is spinning on the inner metal base, so I'm unsure where to go from here or how to get it off, the base piece seems locked solid to the door.
From inside the door speaker opening, separate the two plugs for the mirror, mirror motors and mirror heater are separate plugs. Once this is done you can use the mirror to unscrew the whole unit from the door. The plugs are too big to fit through the hole so you'll either have to cut wires or disassemble the plugs. If the tripod is spinning on the base just apply a little sideways pressure to bind them togetherbobfather said:

If the tripod is spinning on the boss screwed into the door use a parallel punch or screwdriver into the slots of the boss. Tap it around to loosen. Put a couple of layers of tape around the hole to protect the paintwork.
You can just see the slots in the picture.
I don't have much access as shown in my photo above but I'll certainly give the tapping method a try, see what I can get access with, cheers! I'll get back with how I get on. You can just see the slots in the picture.

I don't think this method will work? As mentioned, I've already got the cables disconnected but with the grub screw being loose, the tripod isn't tight on the base so can't unscrew it. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Yes, this happened to me. I managed to bind the two parts together by adding a little bending pressure. If you can see the base through the tripod, then jam something down there to stop them spinning on each other. It worked for me, once the base starts to turn then it should spin out easily"Hens teeth"!
Until a year or so ago they were available from all the big TVR Specialists but stocks seem to have been exhausted, similar situation with Lotus Specialists (same mirrors used on Excel I think?).

There is a single non adjustable type which you can file to match the 3 positions of the original one, they’re identical in all other aspects apparently

So it is clear...I posted this on my FB page yesterday....I cannot see that these are available for under 58+ Euro ATM (I might be wrong). The OE Citroen part number is 95647738 and is what we see in the market place is a 3 position mirror support, but there is a much stronger single position (which with a small amount of work can be filed to be a three position AND I found that I wanted to file more of the one side for wires on the later mirror door button press versions) It comes in slightly cheaper than the 3 position and these are only available second hand (there may be a Citroen part number esp. for this version, but I have never found it)...this really needs to be what TVR 'people' reproduce/3D print (whatever) as a start point, IMHO of course. http://www.cx-basis.de/catalogsearch/result/?_s...
(You might need to have a Europe based 'person' willing to help get the damn thing from A to B these days).

I have fitted used/modified units for 25 years...That these had been a fraction of the price shown, reflects the fact that these are now unavailable (the guy knows that he can command this price)...one of the guys on my FB page is local to the firm, and it might be that he can find the Citroen part number AND then a new part number/source/stock laying on shelves at Citroen garages will appear (that need modifying). Edited to say, note that this single position would be for the passenger side of a LHD car (so RHD drivers side) ...
