Crazy Brakes/Lights

Help! Murphys law say that on the eve of the MOT, something must go wrong...

One of the brake light bulbs was gone, so I replaced the bulb. Simple enough.

Get back in the car, test it out...but now the headlights are coming on everytime I press the brake pedal! Anyone ever had this before? Would appreciate some advice if you can.

Also my windscreen wipers are now misbehaving. Turn them on, and they stay on...until they decide to stop on their own.

I think the car is sitting there chuckling away to itself. :rolleyes:

suspect brake light bulb faulty/ fitted wrong, wipers could be park sensor bot don't know how to fix that

Will check it. Its never done it before, so your probably right. (Its must be a faulty bulb...surely I can fit a light bulb..can't I?)

Have you taken the new bulb out, tested the lights. If OK swapped the good bulb over from the other side, then tested the lights. If the problem persists it ain't the bulb, but something to do with the holder?

Is it the headlamps that light, or just the sidelights? Does the new brake lamp light? If the brake lamp doesn't light and the sidelights come on, the problem is the earth connection to the new bulb isn't properly made. Is it a Fiesta rear light cluster? Ford lamps of the nineties were notorious for these problems. The bulb probably just needs reseating.

I will get out in the morning and do a bit of swapping around as you suggest.

Yes, its the Fiesta light cluster. Funny, my first car was a Fiesta (1.1L) and it never had this problem. 12 years later, and I've moved up in world.
