Hi all.

After thinking about S/S exhaust manifolds for a very long time, I made the decision to order a set of the new Clive F GT manifolds with both a catted and decatted Y piece. These are currently being made so hopefully they will arrive in the next few weeks.

My question concerns the exhaust system and silencer. I currently have a standard exhaust which appears to have been modified by a previous owner ( the silencer box has been opened up and re welded) and the precats have been removed from the original manifolds.

If I were to replace the silencer with a S/S one, could any of you make any suggestions please? I am expecting the new manifolds to make the sound a bit more like a pre cat Griffith due to their design and I don’t want to go OTT on noise levels.

Are my only options from ACT, ie a standard or cherry bomb system? I am inclined to think the former would be better or are there any other suppliers that I should consider ie Powers, Racetrch etc?

Many thanks
Chris

Lots of opinions on this subject, I'm with you regarding noise level. I have ACT StSt manifolds married to a CliveF catless Y Piece. I then considered what to do next but decided that I'd already achieved all the 'nice' pop & bang sound and that tubing the silencer would not increase 'nice' sound, it would just make the car louder and possibly overwhelm the 'nice' sound. I believe that cherries work well, same setup as me on my mates Griff with cherries sounds very nice. I've stuck with standard pipes, my neighbours already cringe when I start it up in my brick garage

I am just awaiting a cherry bomb from act to go with my Clive F decat y piece and removed pre cats in manifold. Cherry bomb on these sound great!

I have tried a few different systems and have recently fitted a JP Sports system - similar design to the standard exhaust but with a smaller silencer - bit more volume / rumble and definition to the sound whilst retaining the smoother (no rasp) at higher revs.....everything else I have is standard...

Just a few pennies worth from me.

I went from a standard exhaust to no-pre-cat manifolds, a Clive de-catted Y piece (a work of art, BTW) and a sleeved exhaust.

It was just too damn loud.......

Now standard - and the only variation is a semi sleeved back exhaust - nice sound enhancement but without the shouting at the passenger over 25 mph, or the sounds of modern warfare gunfire when you have a whiff of over-run......

I suppose its down to taste - and I know what, for me,. is palatable.

I did this plus sleeve the centre silencer and mine is slightly louder at idle and revs but not intrusive at all on the freeway (radio bluetooth mic works easily enough). I still have a small hotdog and silencer at the end of each pipe at the rear. I want the pops and bangs to rival my previous Cerbera and am actually really disappointed in the final result.
