I have a 4.3 Chimaera and I believe the starter is jammed after being stored for a couple of years. I have the car advertised elsewhere for sale as a cheap project (needs starter and clutch slave I believe) but if it takes a while to sell I may fix up the car and sell it as a runner to get a better price. The fuel pump runs with the ignition on but turn the key and nothing.

What I was wondering is what starter motor are people using as replacement starter motors nowadays?

Basically, a Land Rover Starter. Many sing the praises of buying an uprated 1.7 kW version but I've never had issues with a standard 1.4 kW version, on 4 Chimaera / Griffs. Failure to start one is very rarely actually the starter motor itself, but the supply cables, immobiliser, ignition / solenoid supply etc.

I nearly bought this one last week and then found out it was a loose battery lead clamp on my car. whistle It's still available:

Or for one with a warranty:

The 1.7 Kw versions will undoubtedly have a different part number but I never looked for one.

Thanks for the info. I'll pass on the link to the cars new owner - it sold much quicker than I expected.
