My 1995 Chimaera has the original power steering pump fitted and it's quite noisy when the engine is hot and been driven hard. When I mean noisy it sounds like a supercharger to me.

How much noise would you expect from the pump? I know that's a hard question to answer but your thoughts and experiences would be appreciated. I've had the car now for around 4 years (around 6k miles) and it's always been like that.

I phoned a local power steering specialist and it doesn't sound as though there is much that can be changed in these. There is a seal kit for them, no bearings apparently, just bushes. Apparently, when they go noisy it is to do with the pressure relief valve which doesn't have any spares. This kind of fits with what I'm experiencing when the car is hot. So far my pump isn't leaking.

Something to fix in the winter, change it out with an aftermarket one for piece of mind or just leave it?
