wilwood brakes

Anyone fitted these? i notice that they are very reasonably priced in my classic car mags.
Included in their kits are the brackets to adapt to standard mounts, in particular i am interested in a four stud kit... I know people are gonna suggest getting 5 stud conversions yada yada, but it looks like there is a chance a kit could cost around 500 quid for 285mm rotors 4 pot calipers and bracketry, question is if the kit is the same one that is used for the sierra cossie etc

I'm using Wilwood Superlite Cast on the V8S with 12@ discs, but the caliper mounts were DIY rather than a kit. It's worth noting that these calipers don't have dust seals and are not intended for road use, but I've had these for years and driven all year round with no problems so far.

Had them on my 4.0L Chim and they were a massive imporvement on standard.

Can't say what they cost though, they were on it when I bought it from the 'old' Peninsula.

Hi-Spec used to manufacture a kit for the Griff/Chim using 4-pot and 6-pot Wilwoods.
They now do there own caliper at very reasonable money.
Beware of a possible lengthy wait if you order though.

:bites tongue: in deference to Ted's name and shame policy, I'll just say that there are several respectable brake suppliers out there who deliver good quality parts in a reasonable timescale for a fair price, and then back them up with decent customer service. I've been very happy with the service I've received from Rally/Marine Design, and BG Developments.

There has been plenty mentioned about Hi-Spec on PH.
I'll personally give them another try.

Hi-Spec used to make up the kits for Rally Design, and probably still do.
They are producing calipers with proper road type dust seals now. Still, a constant eye should be kept on alloy brake components, especially if used in winter with salty roads.

I have Wilwood 4 pots on my Chimaera and 300mm discs, but be warned the original wheels wouldn't fit (no clearance between the calipers). Think it has something to do with my car being an early model and the type of uprights/hubs they used.

Holy 2005 sorry to drag it up but....

I have just purchased a wilwood kit and wondering if any one has some pics of the kit fitted including the mounting brackets as it is like a puzzle and i cant seem to get them fitted correctly as the bolts seem to short and dont clear the nylocks

Have you got the 285mm or 300mm kit? I have some photo's of the 285 kit fitted to my S3 somewhere that I can dig out. Same arrangement on the S and Chimaera I believe

I had the same problem and fooled about for a long time as well, it's because they forgot that the mounts also need the original spacers for the calliper to be over the centre of the rotor. Just go and buy 10mm longer bolts.

Ah thanks for that, i just thought i was being a numpty, they are the 300mm set up. I am also a bit puzzeled by the way the caliper sits it looks abit low down on the disc like if you look at most cars they are on the upper or centre of the disc?

I have wilwoods on my 450 and find them to be very good, as proved on a day hooning around the Prodrive track last year. I bought longer bolts and put 16" wheels on. Never tried the 15" but it would be tight. If you go to 16" the thickness of the bell is enough to stop the inner rim fouling the track arm so no spacers are needed. While you are there, fit braided hoses too.

I have bought the full kit and have braided hoses too and i am ok for clearance as i run 17" OZ wheels all round glad to hear that you find them good.
