Current Opinions on Carpet Kits?
Discussion
What's the collective opinion on the best replacement carpet kit available? I've seen a lot of older reviews on here but curious for anyone who's purchased recently.
Coverdale and Central TVR seem to be the biggest two, D&C Trim comes highly recommended and does sell kits, those three are all the same price for the synthetic or 80/20 wool blend. There's also Lakewell which is considerably less expensive and allegedly uses a wool-blend carpet but I'd need to confirm that. I've only seen a couple of reviews for them but they were positive. Lakewell also would need a custom color surcharge for my car, which isn't expensive but a little extra effort.
I'd be doing this myself so best fitting is also worth a few points (I appreciate there are car-to-car differences that will require some trimming).
Thanks in advance.

Not tried any of the others but have fitted several D&C sets and they go in nicely. Good choice of materials/colours plus plenty of options for edging including leather. Did a full leather interior and carpets on my car. The leather was 2 tones of grey with the darker of the greys also being used to edge the black carpets.

I have just received my new carpets for CentralTVRPARTS
I have been installing them today, from ordering and discussing colour, edging and stitch colour. the process was made extremely easy by there professionalism and attention to detail.
The carpets fit perfect with minimal trimming.
Great team.

I have thought about replacing my carpets myself too, as the price of kit Vs fitted is massive. I've heard you need to remove the roof to fit the section around the rear speakers and that its a sod because the nuts on the back of the bolts are behind the fuel tank and arent captive, can anyone confirm this ?

Just in the process of putting in new carpets myself as as I get towards the end of my body off resto project. Got mine from D&C in Blackpool who I also took all my interior parts to have re-trimmed in leather; can't speak too highly of the guys there who are brilliantly helpful. Yes, ideally need to remove the hood to fit the carpet right up to the edge. It also needs to fit under the short (4/5 inches) velcro strips that are pop rivetted to the body on each end by the door opening (just back from the bolt that anchors the hoop). It's not difficult to remove the hood but you may find the rear nuts are rusted and in my case at least one of the csk bolt heads had been rounded.....but a screw extractor sorted that. In my Chim there are 3 bolts holding the rear of the frame (nuts in the boot). Plus there are 2 self tapping screws ( one on each side) which I've replaced with M6 bolts as easy to access the nuts thru the door solenoid compartments. The folding struts come away easily as just held with 2 bolts. Obviously there are the 2 large bolts holding the hoop. I took the hood off myself but a helping hand would be useful especially if the nuts on the boot side are stubborn. Mine weren't captive but don't see captives being any more problematic and you can replace with free bolts or repair the captives, as necessary. You read a few stories of problems but with patience it's pretty straightforward but as usual take plenty of pics. I also replaced all the scrim foam as a lot of it was hard/perished. You also need to remove the lower dash for a really complete job. Matching door panels also.

Thanks for the detailed advice, think I'll buy a kit in the new year then and make it my winter project

This is sensible.

I have almost finished mine - just before the snow lands! The kit I got was from D&C Trim and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Dave is the Carpet guru and Chris does hoods and other bits I think. Very helpful and excellent carpets. I have refurbed dash as well and the inside will look showroom when finished.
If I had the time again, I would have just driven it up to them to have it fitted. Unfortunately, no MOT and other issues stopped me so I thought I would take it on.
Must say, though - it does look v nice.
I also replaced the seatbelts and spacers to enable the belts to move freely.
Good luck
Phil.
