Windscreen Replacement - East Mids

Hello All,

Picked up a big stonechip on the way back from Bruntingthorpe today - the crack is starting to run... :(

I dropped into RAC Autowindscreens here in Nottingham who suggested that TMS use their branch in Loughboro' so they have fitters who are TVR-savvy. So I'm provisionally booked in there (my insurers insist on RAC). I'm planning to take it into their workshop - possibly at the weekend if they can get the parts.

Has anyone had the windscreen on their Chimaera changed by TMS or RAC Lough recently - any comments, referrals or suggestions?

I am waiting for my screen to be replaced by RAC in Colindale (N.London), they needed to get some additional parts in (windscreen seals??), but seems to be taking a while. They tell me they have done Tivs before but I am a little concerned. Leven recommended that I make sure they have the seals as there is quite a lot of work (its a TVR no surprise there) to replace the windscreen as they have to remove the door pillar trim etc. If mine is done anytime soon I will tell you how it goes, but could you let me know vice versa??

Certainly will do. If you do a search on this forum, there have been a few discussions and recommendations for where to go down your way if you aren't constrained by your insurer.

Unfortunately I am! They specified who has to fit it! Although they will have one hell of a compensation claim if they bollox it up! I will not put up with a less than perfect job on the Tiv!

Actually, I've been impressed by both the Nottingham and Loughborough RAC Auto Windscreens guys now - knowledgeable, friendly, professional & polite!

Took mine in this morning and they have managed to repair it, as the crack from the chip had only run 3mm. So, we shall see if it holds, but at the moment, no windscreen-out surgery to report. (did have a good blast to & from Loughboro though!!)

Funnily enough, I am still waiting for them to receive the parts! Maybe this week sometime?????
(I would have got mine repaired but as it is starting to go 'milky' due to de-lamination? at the bottom, decided to get it replaced).
Will report back as soon as the work is done!

As had been said before here, let them know that the roof will come off if the screen is not fitted well and they will be responsible for a very expensive claim. But they probably won't accept liability and you'll loose your no claims.

The roof can come off very easily at speed without notice... beware

Thanks for all the advice chaps! I have binned the RAC and am going to get Tower View to get one for me and fit it. Only £100 instead of £50 which is a bargain against the price of the job at £ 375 approx

Just to add my twopence worth - our Chim went to Autoglass in Guildford (not near you, I know) next day, and they did a top job on it! So it's anot all doom and glom when it comes to the chain places. Okay, so we had to phone round a few of them til we found one that was happy to do it - a couple said they didn't want to touch it, and I'm quite glad they didn't if they didn't have the confidence.
