Electric column assisted steering - 1996 Chimaera
Discussion
Hi all,
I know this has been spoken about many times, but I have searched and not found clear results.
Which is the better choice, the Corsa B or the Corsa C Electric Power Steering, to retrofit to a 1996 Chimaera?
Has anyone ever written up the modification with some guidance of do's and don'ts?
Regards,

Having just done the mod I would not be using either of the ones you mentioned. There are now other epas systems available off the shelf, the one I fitted is from DC electronics in maldon. The system comes complete with the electronics and it’s up to you if you want speed sensitive.

Any more info on this conversion?Edited by hoofa on Thursday 9th September 07:31
Whilst I've never had a problem with the manual steering on my Griff, getting older, and a long standing shoulder issue, has me thinking maybe I should consider a conversion.

I like the look of that.Edited by hoofa on Thursday 9th September 07:31
I think you can switch it off once on the move?
I love the feel of my non PAS in general driving conditions with great feedback but it needs a bit of muscle parking (I probably need the exercise anyway)

Hopefully DC don't mind me posting their reply:
Thank you for your enquiry about EPAS for your TVR 350i.
It would seem that it's not a straight forward install, with some welding required.
We have had several customers fit our Microsteer universal power steering kit to TVR’s in the past. Please see attached information on the Microsteer EPAS system and the cost for the kit.
This is a universal kit so not model specific. By making it universal we are able to keep the cost down, what you see in the picture is what you get so you will need to fabricate your own mounting bracket as well as modify the steering column to fit the motor inline – some welding will be required but any garage familiar with vehicle repair and restoration would be able to do this for you if it was something you didn’t want to tackle yourself. We can also point you towards some installers if you need help.
The system has all the parts you will need in the EPAS200 kit other than a speed sensor and the alternate couplers which I have listed separately below. The speed sensor is only required if you want to make it speed sensitive (if the car has some form of digital speed sensor already then you can share this signal otherwise a speed sensor can be fitted to look at a bolt head on the prop shaft with a simple bracket).
Once the mechanical installation is complete you simply connect the battery and you have instant, tuneable power steering.
Prices were given but in case PH thinks I'm advertising I've deleted them.

Hi Hoofa,
Is that 650 for the DCE parts or does that include the fabrication work?

Drop them a line if you feel you want to go ahead. I was enquiring for a 350i Wedge, think I may just stick with the existing. If it was a direct replacement I would have been more interested. Also, there isn't that much space under the dash for the motor.
