Rocker gasket replacement - hack
Discussion
Hope this might help someone....
After struggling to locate the steel spacers and position the gaskets I found removing the gaskets the spacers would get dislodged and on refitting the spacers kept slipping out of place and the gaskets were difficult to keep in position.
I thought there has to a simpler way.
I purchased 6 inches of 1/4" UNC bar
Cut it into 4 pieces
Cut a slot in the top of each of those.
One by one unscrewed the cover bolts and inserted the slotted bar in its place lightly screwing them in with a flat head screwdriver, this then made it easy to lift off the cover and gasket with the spacers staying in place.
Slipped the new gasket over the slotted bar inserts, gasket nicely held in place. Then refit the cover and one by one remove the slotted bar and replace the cover bolts. All done with no drama and no spacers lost into the valve gear or down the side of the engine.
