As I understand it, the headlight aim is adjusted by three screws on the headlight unit. But to access these you need to remove the surround first.

How?

I'm guessing it isn't just clipped on. I suspect some fiendishly hidden screws/bolts. Inside the wing perhaps from underneath?

No the surround does not come off for headlight adjustment.

In the wheel arch is a cover screwed on with 4 self tappers and some sealant.

Inside you will find 3 long screws with wing nuts which are the adjusters.
They will be rusted solid and are only about M3 so a good twist will break them off. I would suggest applying penetrating spray over a period of days before leaning too hard on them.

Depends on the year of manufacture, early cars didn't have the wheel arch cover, they were accessed via the front radiator air inlet

Sorry, to clarify, 98 450.

And after breaking the adjusters, what then? New headlight unit?

Hi. Partsfortvrs do an adjuster kit including stainless bolt, adjuster etc. Part TVR RG 157. I'm sure the other well known suppliers will also do them

Just use plenty of penetrating spray and they should free off.

As a matter of interest, is the Lupo unit still a popular conversion?

Nothings been popular round these parts for years tumbleweed
It’s all happening on FB sadly as PH is actually a far better platform for Tvr matters.

I think the enclosed jobbies aka mk3 Chim are more in vogue but don’t quote me wink

So, taking the front wheels off then through an access hatch to the adjusters, how on earth can you set the lamps accurately?

Unless you measure the chassis ground clearance then lowering the chassis back to the same without the wheels.

Having replaced both my reflectors so both will likely require lining up for mot I think if you leave the covers off you can just Jack car up so wheels drop enough for mot man to get his hands in and fine tune position, drop car test and faff on like that. You’ll still need to remove wheels to put covers on afterwards mind so your idea is probably the best. Take a low line trolley Jack with you lol.

remove wheels, take covers off, re-fit wheel, take the car for a short ride so the suspension can settle down.

for adusting its just enough space to pass your hand/forearm to reach the adjusters when the car stands on the floor. you may need to put the steering on full lock...and your arms shouldnt be too "strong"
