ECU Fault Code 88

Worth a new thread having poked and prodded the search function.

Having popped a PRC17EM onboard diagnostic module on the ECU, I get fault code 88 displayed.

Two pronged post I guess, is the PRC17EM module truly compatable with the TVR Chimaera ECU ?

and or

As the fault code 88 suggests a purge valve problem,and the ECU controls the trigger point for its activation, how the hell does it know there is a problem ?

in simple terms (for me) if the valve is purely a solenoid to release the vapour into the plenum, how does the ECU spot a fault, some kind of return signal ??

Help my sanity please.

I would guess that the ECU will sense the drive current to the solenoid so will be able to diagnose simple drive faults like open/short circuit solenoid.
