93 Chim Door Lock/Alarm Tricks
Discussion
Hi All
Having some issues with the door locking and alarm system on my 93 Chimaera - external door locks with keyholes, Gemini alarm, and most importantly, I do NOT have an alarm fob. I'm in the US so can't take the car to any of the usual experts.
This morning I reconnected the battery to take the car to work and heard the door locks engage and the indicator light on the passenger side came on. I tried the various combinations of pushing the lock barrel in and turning the key clockwise/anticlockwise until the doors locked or unlocked, but the damn light would not go out! Then I went over to the driver's side and did the same thing a few times, with the alarm going off every so often. I eventually got both indicator lights to go out, but the passenger door was still locked and the alarm went off again! I disabled it and when the driver's door was unlocked with both lights out (passenger door still locked) just started the car which I guess disabled the immobilizer for the time being.
Is there some secret TVR trick I'm missing here? I seem to have more issues with the passenger door lock, and rarely see both indicator lights on at the same time when arming/disarming - they're not synced up properly it seems, but also the indicator light status doesn't seem to correspond to doors locked or unlocked. Also, can I just disconnect the siren without impacting the rest of the system? I'm sure my neighbors would appreciate that
Thanks

Probably better in the long run to try and get it replaced or removed completely, once alarm systems start playing up they usually end up leaving you stranded one day.
It’s not rocket science for an auto spark really, maybe consider just removing it and adding a remote locking system if car theft isn’t an issue in your area.
I’ve removed and replaced an old Foxguard system and have wiring colours listed for a 1995 car which will probably be the same if you wanted them for help in disconnection etc.

Definitely would like to remove the old system and just have central locking with a remote. Any info you have on removing the existing immobilizer would be helpful, thank you. I did email Carl Baker to see if he has any details on the system, but I'm sure it'll be an adventure getting anyone over here to even touch the car.
I have had this problem a couple of times, usually when the immobilizer detects a voltage drop when the battery is already low but never with a full charge.
Its when you are sat in the car & it locks you in its a pain ,lol. I can`t really help other than to say the alarm & immobilizer by this time are a liability, immobilizer sometimes cause of battery drain too.

Its a manual, most thieves will be stumped by it in the US , the rest will give up trying to work the old Rover box It’s not rocket science for an auto spark really, maybe consider just removing it and adding a remote locking system if car theft isn’t an issue in your area.

I have had a phone call from the guy doing an MOT test, asking how to get out. I don`t think they get stolen much in the UK, bit too obvious to move on.
I will give a mate of mine a shout about the immobilizer fix, he has done it on his, not sure if he`s a PH member or not, he does read it though. He`s a lot bloody cleverer than me though & often helps out in a fix. This is how a lot of owners here get by, not so easy for yourself but once you persuade a decent mechanic its just a pile of parts like any other car they will figure it out.
