Trickle charging.....

Anybody tried trickle charging via the cigar lighter socket as its a bit of a fiddle connecting direct to the battery?

I believe Leven do an attachment for their trickle charger that plugs into the cigarette lighter.

I thought about doing exactly this, but then read a few posts that said "don't do it" I think it was because the lighter went through a fuse and you would regularly blow the fuse (but don't quote me on that!)

I wired mine into the battery with the bit that they give you - just used a couple of self tapping screws (and washers) into the top of the terminals - a few zip ties and Bobs ya uncle!

Leven sell the accumate stuff... and I think there is a cigarette lighter option... they also do a wall mounting bracket... give 'em a call.

I have used a trickle charger through the cigar lighter for the past 10 months on the chim. No problems so far, I was amazed the first time I used it how long it took for the green fully charged light to come on.

Yep, Accumate via ciggy lighter socket kept my Chim battery topped up all last winter.

I have always use the accumate trickle charger with the cigarette lighter attachment. Never had any issues at all and always great to know that the battery is fully charged every time you get in it (not that I ever had any issues but gives you peace of mind)

Got it from TVR Centre in Barnet and they had all their showroom cars plugged in this way. Personally never heard of any issues with them.

Can order it through Leven technology with the lighter attachment.

The only issue with charging through the cigarette socket is charge rate. Our charger only puts out a max of 1.2 amps so is safe through the cigarete socket. The best way by far is to fit the lead supplied in the kit as this give a perfect connection every time. As it is waterproof it can be fitted to the outside of the car! Wouldn't it also be feasable to connect the charger to the alternator terminals?

Why bother? The accumate comes with a battery connector. Undo the nut holding the -ve lead to the battery terminal, slide over the o ring style connector, nut back on & tighten. Repeat for the +ve terminal.
You can do it with the battery in situ and it takes 5 mins on your belly in the footwell. You don't even have to take the leads off the battery. The bit that connects to the accumate unit is a quick release rubberised clip which just dangles next to the battery when not required.
Good, solid connection with none of the dangers of pushing the ciggy lighter into the door recess
