I know that just fitting new leads and ignition components can make a car drive like new, not sure about a definate bhp increase though (unless there is something very wrong with the ignition components)
If you are unsure, for the cost and peace of mind, changing 'perishables' such as the leads is a good idea if you dont know the history of your own. My car felt like it gained another 30bhp or so just after getting it serviced... probably new plugs and the filter.
I will be doing the ACT induction pipe/filter upgrade this month and Magnecor KV85 leads so will let you know.
(there was a PHer who was really happy after fitting a new coil, leads and induction pipe recently.)

so they're not really gains... just re-claiming lost ponies from worn components...
If anyone thinks they can get significant gain from swapping the leads on a reasonable runner, they will be sadly disappointed.
Indeedy archie, you can lose power by having poor performing ignition items, but that's not a power gain in teh real sense .. just that good quality leads mean you don't get as much degradation in time.
Be wary of some magnecors though .. Whilst i've had very many excellent sets of them, just a few months ago i had three faulty sets .. bad batch maybe but suggests there's a lots of other faulty sets out there too ..

I've been toying with changing the leads etc on my Chim 400 probably for Magnecor ones, but not having fiddled greatly with car electrics in the past, wondered exactly what was involved in connecting them into the distributor and so on?...any advice would be appreciated!...also, if changing the leads do you have to change the ignition coil or any parts of the distributor as well?...where is the best (or cheapest) place to buy them??.....so many questions

ACT are the best place to get Magnicor leads.
Leads can be changed without changing anything else.
All the leads are different lengths so some common sense is required to fit the right lead in the right place.
Replace each lead one at a time to ensure that you don't get the connections jumbled up.
You will get dirty.
If it isn't obvious how to proceed from here then don't. It'll take the person who services your car 30 seconds to change the leads. If you try it yourself and get it wrong, the engine won't run afterwards.
