breather oil leak
Discussion
I have a breather oil leak. But only when not running.
I noticed a small puddle on the o/s rocker cover a while back, when checking the car before going for a drive. Because of the location I assumed it was pas fluid but the colour and taste says engine oil.
I am on digital ignition and there's a Bosch idle control valve where the ignition amp would normally be. The leak is directly below the lowest point of the idle valve and with this issue the idle valve is wet at the lowest point, with oil. Brown. Not loads. Just a smear on the fingertip. It's just there. I like my oil inside the engine.
The fault only manifests itself after a run. The car doesn't live with me, so what happens is I park it and everything is fine, then I find a puddle next time I come to the car. Which is days, not hours. If I take it to work, the 8 hr day isn't enough to cause the issue. It's usually a few days standing.
It seems that oil vapour in the breather is condensing after the flame trap and running back under gravity to the lowest point, and also leaking past what I presume must be an internal seal in the idle valve between the wet side and dry side.
I'm quite prepared to chuck a new idle valve at it but just concerned that the amount of oil vapour getting into the breather system seems excessive?

I'll have to dig some out, fiddle about with ingur etc etc...
Yes, Canems.
It must have been one of the first cars Lloyds did, Daniel did say that for the early cars they didn't use OE Bosch but lower quality parts. If mine is one of those, probably not a surprise it's playing up. Had a high cold idle issue as well, but cleaning the hoses and throttle body improved that no end. But, possibly related.
