I was thinking about gettinmg new injectors, just wondering if any of you have changed yours if so what did you use (model #) etc and did you feel any change in torque etc.
I understand some people upgrade to Bosch injectors (don't know what model)!

ian,
its no good replacing the injectors for larger flowing items unless you have the ECU re programmed for them, as all you will do it enrichen the entire rev range of the car and probably make it slower and undrivable. The injectors are capable of 280-300BHP, so if your not near there then I wouldnt bother unless theres a problem with yours. The gains from fitting new injectors and having the ecu upgraded are going to be very very small for the cost if you arent having any trouble with what you have now. If you want to upgrade, go for a programmable ignition setup, replace the coil with an MSD amp and coil, or go the whole hog and fit a Megasquirt ECU and control spark and fuel, used in conjuction with an MSD or a set of coil packs from a RRover you will have some good control and see some good improvements on power,

Any particular reason? If your current injectors are OK and the rest of the engine is standard then uprating the injectors is not a cost effective upgrade.

The garage I spoke to would have charged a few hundred quid for cleaning them (there were 2 of them that seemed to be giving a slightly different spray).

My car is already chipped, but Mark Adams couldn't enrich it any more without bigger injectors and he mentioned that a lot of customers use Bosch injectors and are very pleased with them, he also said that he found an average of 9lb/ft torque extra (throughout) with the new injectors and remap.

So I thought, if I'm going to pay out for having them cleaned, maybee its an idea to just get some bigger ones with a remap and get more torque!!!!

Can you clean the injectors yourself?
Any comments?

Ian,
I have cleaned injectors and flow tested them myself in the past, but to be honest unless you have a fuel pump, regulator, pipework, ultrasonic cleaner bath and some electronics experience so you can build a simple 555 timer setup, then it aint worth it. Wonder how you know 2 are playing up?
I have a set of 8 from a 99 5.0L Chim for sale on ebay at the moment, would be ideal for you to swap and test to see if your right about 2 being poor flow rates. At the end of the day its up to you what you spend your money on and what you feel is worth while doing, whats a new set of injectors and a reprogrammed ECU cost?

I was told the injectors were playing up after having the car on the rolling road and looking at the spark plugs!

I think a new set of the Bosch ones would be about £500, the chip remap would be an hour of Marks time - about £150!!

How much do you expect to get for the injectors on e-bay?

Ian,
well I would guess they will sell for about £100, they are sitting at £20 now. Im not trying to push you to buy them, they will sell anyhow. What Im saying is theres other options. The guy who told you you have 2 injectors with a dodgy spray pattern from looking at the plugs must be exceedingly clever. Unless he fitted new plugs, drove it flat out then switched off the engine whilst it was still flat out, then removed the plugs he isnt going to tell a lot from them. ive tried and tried to read plugs, and Ive even done the above test and then sent them to the States where a good mate of mine has looked at them, and its very very difficult to tell whats happening unless they are totally different, but youd have noticed there was something wrong if that was the case. Id be more inclined to think Ignition, unlikely to be injectors. Bets thing to try is swap the 2 banks over, so the 4 on the drivers side fit on the passengers side. Ask the guy to do the test again without telling him and see what 2 cylinders he comes up with, that will tell you all you need to know,

I've not found anything wrong with the car at all. It was suggetsed the injectors needed cleaning because a couple of the spark plugs looked too clean (theory being that the fuel was being squirted straight onto the plugs and burning off it).

The change to new injectors was suggested as a general upgrade and any issues that might have been there with the old ones would be cured!

I was told, new Bosch injectors could show more torque (with remapping) and everyone that has tried them has been very pleased with the results!

I'm sure someone has had Bosch injectors, I'd be intersted to know if they made any difference!

This is total rubbish Im afraid. 80-90% of the time the injectors are squirting fuel will be aimed at the back of the intake valve as they are batch fired and the valve is only open for a very small period in the engine cycle. Good luck with your quest,
Phil

I think the going rate for cleaning injectors is about £15 each (ie £120 for the set). Add VAT and postage and it might come to £150? About an hour's labour to remove/refit, free if you do it yourself, £50 if your dealer does it, so £200 doesn't look outrageous. If you buy new, the £150 changes to £600 and you still have the other costs, you also need a new map to suit (talk nicely to Mark and he may stick one in the post rather than needing another RR session).

I guess this has already been talked about before, but I didn't find anything in the search, could you give me a quick breakdown of what the debate is

Ian - I wasn't having a go at you for not using the search. I was referring to the fact that last time this debate ran it resulted in global war.
