I'm guessing Magnecor silicon, but what is the story with the plug extenders?

Ditch the extenders?

I wouldn't go for the Magnecor leads, these are the way forward, but fragile if handled roughly

+1

I use his stuff to make custom leads. I recommend the angled boots + socks (and fit them to cars that get my modifications).

Thanks for that everyone. I can't justify the cost of ceramic, that's an insane price.
I'll take a look at Mr Retroleads.

Isn’t it recommended you change to Ford plugs ( fiesta ? ) with a thinner body if going ceramic.
Haven’t a few people broken a ceramic cap trying to get them on / off because they are actually designed for a narrower plug?

Very expensive but don’t alf look posh when fitted.

That is truly outrageous price considering the amount of people who have managed to fracture a cap when removing them. If they offered single leads so that we didn't have to replace the lot when only one gets fractured, then it would be a slightly better option

Business opportunity idea

Buy a set and sell them individually!

"Fiesta" plugs mentioned earlier are probably BCPR6ES ? 16mm hex rather than 20.8 but isn't the insulator part same dimensions?

Are the Fiesta plugs the same heat setting? I thought Chimaeras used BP9? I might be confusing that with my Trabant though laugh

Because if they did offer single replacements they could surely charge a Tenner a cap ( fair enough) You’d need to by fifty sets to get a deal for that price yikes and make more money from splitting a set or two over time anyway. A better option for all.
I’d be far more tempted to use them if this was the case.
I find getting caps on plugs hard on our cars anyway so I’m bound to break a few over time!

Looking at the ones pictured above they do look rather narrow.

Are the ones from the states the same ones Jacko scratchchin

Every time a car comes in fitted with ceramic leads a little bit of me dies inside. They really are hateful things.

Can you explain why? Is there really any benefit to anything but standard plug leads anyway? Are they just the aftermarket, foam/washable/oilable air filter that gives you no more bhp than the standard one, but costs 10 times the price?

Well it's always in the back of your mind that one might break, in which case the owner would expect you to replace, and that means buying a set .. it's just added stress.

They often leave the black rubber insert buried deep in the spark plug recess. They are a pain to get back off if it's a rear plug.

They are awkward / difficult / almost impossible to get off if they've been on any length of time.

The click action on the terminals is poor, you often aren't really sure if it's on properly or no or ... ironically grip too well see next item ..

I've had many where the terminals are not well crimped to the wire and they just pull apart when trying to remove them.

That's just off the top of my head.

I think the Vauxhall plug extenders TVR fitted have a reputation for breaking down, causing a misfire. And they are no longer available new.

Because of the rather unconventional design of the TVR headers it gets very hot around the plugs, standard leads alone risk getting cooked?

One solution is Ceramic connectors on the HT leads, will tolerate extreme temperatures but downside is they are very brittle.

"Heat proof" socks or sleeving are another way around the issue.
