Just checking on correct oil pressure reading while sat ticking over, out of gear, engine warm - mines reading just under 30psi - sound about right?

Mines a bit higher than that, but I think the crucial
things is a consistent oil pressure rather than absolute value as they are all different.

As above !

But what sender are you running as different units can give vastly different readings ?

Will need to check sender - what’s the differences just out of interest?

Yep the pressure is consistent and obviously rises when in gear and accelerating,.

30psi at hot idle is fine, the RV8 is notorious for relatively low pressure. As stated, consistency is a good pointer (though consistently zero is probably not wink). Which oil/grade?

Sorry - Car was serviced when I purchased it last year and not due service until Sept so had no input on that yet. Any recommendations?

Valvoline VR1 Racing 20w-50 Highly Refined Mineral Oil. Consistently recommended on various RV8 forums.

Had an S previously, and that’s what I used so makes sense - thanks for the feedback

These oil pressure senders are simple devices, a tin diaphragm flexes due to oil pressure change, the diaphragm is connected to a cantilever which wipes a contact across a carbon or wire wound resistor. They are set at manufacture to give the correct resistance at mid-range. No adjustment is possible for range accuracy, it is assumed that manufacturing tolerance will provide a reasonable range accuracy. The dash gauge is similarly simple though this does have range adjustment. The accuracy of this system is so poor that the gauge should just show red-green-red, as long as you’re in the green you’re okay

As James Agger pointed out when I picked up my Griff from him, all the gauges are 'approximate'.

They wave in approximately the right direction…

Perhaps it might be an idea to buy a capillary oil pressure gauge, to obtain a more accurate reading.
