windscreen replacement
Discussion
looks like a need a new screen, thanks to the crack that has developed, after an innocuous looking stone chip a couple of weeks ago. I am with footman james for insurance, will they push me toward autoglass? and are they likely to be able to supply and fit properly? or am i better asking to go to my local TVR expert (HHC in this case)
Also, has anyone got an idea what supply is like for screens and present??

I have been told recently that screens are in very short supply (Finnish factory gone out of business).
My personal experience is to avoid Autoglass at all costs for TVRs. They are fine for mainstream vehicles but made an absolute mess of my screen replacement despite me taking it a considerable distance to one of their 'supposed' trained fitter depots. I spent a reasonably large sum getting it sorted out afterwards elsewhere.

Hi Sawman
These seem to be available on ebay although I don't particularly like the green tint at the top

Have a word with Tony at HHC I am sure he will help you out.

Always understood it was a right pain fitting these even for the supposed experts !!
As was said to me many years ago, go through insurance but make it extremely clear that if they chose to send you to one of the usual chains of companies that do this, they (the insurance) will end up paying more by a factor of ten when they have to foot the bill to have the interior re-trimmed after said chain has made a horlicks of it !!
Thats what I did many years ago and once explained clearly to them they understood and let me take it to some guys in Liphook (can't remember who at the moment) as they did all the body work for Fernies at the time.

My experience of the big firms has been OK, personally. Auto windscreens replaced a windscreen on my Chimaera in 2014 and did a good job. They had a chap who had done one before and they kept the car indoors all night so that it would cure properly. Unfortunately, they are mostly 'mobile' now.
National Windscreens in Wolverhampton did a Cerbera for me in 2019 and that was OK too, it just took 9 weeks to get hold of a screen!

But does he trade near the Black Forest
I’d buy screen from a known TVR bodyshoppe and get it shipped over.
It’s a bonded screen so most of the job will be cleaning off the old sealant from car.
Offer up screen and centre then mark it with chalk and body to realign it quickly once you’ve applied a mastic bed then simply drop it into the opening.
A mastic man uses a gun that provides just the right depth of sealer so well worth getting an expert to do it. It should be good for 2 decades so worth spending well once.
