The bike rack I've got now is very adjustable and has been on all kinds of cars. I think I need to check the mounting options on the bootlid.
Would the fibreglass be an issue? Obviously I'd use a cover on the boot to protect paint work.
I've only got the need and space for one car, but I love mountain biking!

Firstly, don't come back to me if you crack the bodywork with the weight/vibration!
It might be an idea to make some sort of protection (spreader) plate for the boot where the rack clips would latch on.
Maybe something out of alluminium sheet backed with rubber from an old inner-tube?
I assume you've thought of taking the wheels, etc,. off - leaving the frame, bars, saddle and wheels and seeing if they fit in the boot? - it might be worth trying first...after all, if you can get two sets of golf clubs in...
(ooops ! I see from your recent post that you are thinking of buying a Chim... i.e. not got one yet !) The boot is very deep - it might just work!

depending on the bike i've seen 2 in the boot, roof on though chaps

I FINALLY got those bl**dy things back. Had to get a taxi round to his house when I was up in London for the day. He hadn't even polished them for me! Git.

Yes I have.
A Halfrauds 3 bike high mounted fully adjustable one.
Go for the high mounted ones as this leaves the license plate and lights visible thereby negating the need for a tailboard.
It has two straps to the front of the boot lid (by the window), a single strap to each side and two underneath the car which have hooks.
There is a bar connecting the exhaust pipes with a central vertical support to the underside - this is the ideal place for these BUT put the right hand hook over the left hand side of the support and vice versa for the lefthand hook - reason being this keeps the straps away from the exhausts which WILL (ahem experience talking) melt them.
The topside strap have plastic coated metal lugs that do need padding between them and the boot - foam is ideal - but not too thick otherwise they will stand out too far and rub against the bodywork.
Would recommend wrapping adittional pipe lagging around all framework which is an inch away when secure - rubbed a small patch of paint away before I discovered this due to vibration etc. The rack does lower in height when the cars moving.
Oh, and don't go to fast - didn't go above NSL and this was probably at the limit.
Whole setup was good for a 400 mile round trip
