Clutch smell and smoke

Took my 94 Chim on first long haul today, 300 mile round trip. Generally handled it all very nicely.
I was stuck at one point though on a slope, and being paranoid of the handbrake, I held the car on the clutch (whince). I wasn't holding it long when the smell of burning clutch filled the car and smoke started coming up from the sides of the car.
Parked up, let it cool, and made the drive home.
Just driving along 100+ miles later, the strong smell returned during flat 70mph cruise, so again I stopped for a few minutes. When I resumed, all was well and the car seemed to be unaffected.
So, have I fried my clutch? Should I be vigilant now for slippage/power drops?

it sounds to me that you will need a new clutch very soon indeed,how many miles you done,has it had a new clutch before.im sure someone on here with more knowledge will either agree with me or not!!

It only takes a low speed wheelspin in the wet, in 2nd gear, to make my clutch a bit smelly. Never seen any smoke from it though, and no loss of power.
