I was on the dual carriageways around Peterborough on Saturday and led a Lexus SC430 that was 3 up(their horrid drop top) off a roundabout, floored it in 2nd, 3rd etc right through to a ton when I backed off. Trouble is although he couldn't gain on me I couldn't see myself pulling away from him. How fast are these things as I though a 400 Chim should have been easily able to pull away.
I know the Chim isn't the fastest car in the world but against a Lexus I'd have thought no sweat. Now having major panic thinking my cars well down on power and somethings wrong.

4.3L V8 and its a new Jap Engine so 32 Valve not some antiquated Rover lump.
These things cost abot 50k I think so I'd be p155ed off if I'd bought one and a GRP Canoe based car got away from me
I'd also be p155ed off if I bought one as they look poo.
I think a top of its game 4.0 should have shown it a clean pair of heels but it would be close.

5.9 to 60 compared to about 5ish for mine, I guess that explains a bit. One out of synch gear change from me could easily put me behind.
As mentioned he didn't gain on me at all and I was ever so slowly pulling from him but I still didn't expect him to be quite so quick.
Looking at the car though I guess it needs to be quick to get away from the laughing and jeering of onlookers. It's hideous!

Seriously, that gearbox is the dogs bollox. iirc it's a 5 speed tiptronic.
Yeah, its a 5 speed auto with the buttons on the steering wheel.. and dont get me wrong, its a nice auto box - but when driven in anger, the changes just seem a little too relaxed..
maybe its me, and i admit, i'm not a fan of auto boxes.. but I felt the car would've been much better with the slick 6-speed...
oh - and FYI - i've never gone near 5th at 30mph..

On the car I saw, it had + - shifts on a dogleg, still totaly pointless as you can't shift faster than the car can.
hmm, perhaps i'm confusing it with the IS300?
anyway, tiptronics (IMHO) are the worst of both worlds.. i've never driven one I've liked...
I had one of these as a courtesy car once. It was quick-ish in a straight line but I couldn't keep up with a well-driven Diesel Focus estate round the bends. By looking at the wind deflector in the rear-view mirror, you can see the chassis twisting.
And don't expect the traction control to help you if you provoke oversteer. It just gives up after a bit.
