Hi All,
Just had my Chim serviced at a well known independent.
6k service for £275. (not including extras).
Does this sound about right?
I was just a bit taken aback because the service doesn't include plugs, given its basically an oil change and fluid check, I was figuring it would be £200 MAX.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not complaining or bad mouthing anyone - far from it - just casting a line to see what other people are paying for the same job at main dealers or other independents??

Sounds a good deal.
My 24000 Mile Service (the big one) was £525, including the replacement of one Rocker Cover gasket, from Austec last week.
Last years 6000 Mile came to £400 from them which included a 4 Wheel alignment (and a couple of hours of Pauls time on the Rolling Road
)

I was under the impression that plugs should be change every service. (regardless of mileage)
When I mentioned on a previous topic about how plugs are designed to last a good 50k miles and I though that changing them every time was excessive, I was told by the gods themselves that this was incorrect and they should be changed regardless.
So now, with an indi not changing them as per the recommended schedule, (and not wanting to sound bad on this) does this this mean the cars service history is not as per book.

Now I'm realy confused.
Service (1) 6000 = Service and Inspection
(2)12000 = Service and Plugs and Inspection
(3) 24000 = Service and Plugs and Brake Fluid Change and Coolant Change and Inspection
So services should go like this: Service 1 2 1 3 1 2 1 3 1 2 1 3 etc

Now obviously if it's a known low mileage per year car then you could let them go every other service .. but the schedule if followed precisely has a plugs change every service.
on the other hand 275 pounds is dirt cheap for a service, so if your plugs had only done a few miles since last change i wouldn't get too upset .. if you're a 6k a year person tho, then they should have been changed ...

£275 sounds like a dream, I made the mistake of taking mine to a TVR dealership, for the same service and they ended up, after tearing my arm off, taking me for over £900. Will definately be heading towards an independant specialist next time, especially as they warned me that the next main service would be in excess of £2000+

My last 6000 mile service was about £90 from my local indie..
then i would argue you've been done just as badly as the guy who spent 900 ... you can't possibly do a service for 90 pounds... there's about 70 pounds worth of expense on parts and environmental charges before you even do any work.

My main dealer charges that just to wash & hoover the car out.
its a small place called Much Marcle Garage in Herefordshire. To be fair they didn't do all the visual inspections on the last visit (I know my car pretty well) so the £90+vat was effectively oil and filters. I've not asked them to cost up a 12,000 service, however will have them do one before the winter.
Oh, and before everyone says its not a recognised TVR independent, they run this little beauty amongst others so I trust them with my motor.

As Joolz said, plugs should be done at each service.
Gets more intriguing with every post! Austec charge the same for a 6 or 12K service but this schedule would make this impossible as there are significant differences and none between the 12k and 24k.
I swear the bible says only change the plugs every 12k - unless i am going mad
- probably am! BUT SHOCK - I can no longer claim FSH as I asked Austec not to clean mine

We change the plugs at every service, as per service schedule.
The only service that doesnt is the 1000 mile new car service.
