Hi all. Late model Chimaera (2000), blowing the wiper park/brake light fuse every time the wipers are used. For a start, I can't find the wiper motor(!) which doesn't match up with anything from the Bible. Can anyone shed any light on how I access the motor to check out the park switch, please? Has anyone come across this problem?

I have a 2001 MK3 Chim, so I had a look for you , and I couldn't find mine. Tonight I happen to pop round to my mechanic (Heath from X-Works)... he told me it's a pig to get at, behind the rev counter in your dash, He advised removing the steering wheel and dropping the steering column to get at it.
It's more than likely the cause is the Bosch motor ( the MK3 uses the same motor as the T350 and Tamora) and has the park return but Heath also said it could be a wiring earth and asking if anything has been recently disturbed for fitted (like a stereo).
Hope this helps .. I guess it's the 20 Amp Fuse 18 that keeps blowing ?

Hi all

Many, many thanks for your help and input. Yes, it is fuse 18 that keeps blowing. Quite why anyone decided to put the motor where they did is a mystery - more idiotic 'good ideas' from Blackpool!

As it happens, I tried disconnecting the intermittent wipe pot, that made no difference, but then when I reconnected it, the problem disappeared! This would indicate that a bad connection there (no earth involved) caused the issue.

God knows what has been done to the wiring - the lack of a park switch, coupled with a fuse for a non-existent park switch, leads me to wonder (again) what was done and what someone was thinking of. Sounds like a botch job.

Bizarre.

Anyway, this now means I can sell the damn thing with a clear conscience. Love the car, hate the design and the way it was put together.

It was actually a factory improvement towards reliability!

Up until about early 2000, it was on the n/s just below the windscreen. Exposed to all rainfall, the wiring suffered and the motors broke down more often. Admittedly, it is easier to get to in the original position. rolleyes

5 wire Bosch motor does have a park switch but it's not similar to the Lucas one, will be built into the gear cover and switch contacts run on a slip ring
