The fuel feed and return pipes are in that area and definitely sounds like you have a leak from one/both of them. Not the hardest things to change, just a bit fiddly depending how big your hands are ! Also helps if you can jack the front of the car up and put on some axle stands, as the original factory location of the feed pipe where it changes from copper to rubber is above/beside the bell housing.

All very DIY-able, just fiddly as stated.

As to if this would cause it to run as you've described, sadly that could technically be any number of things. But I'd definitely change those rubber hoses asap as I wouldn't want to run the car under any circumstances (including any further diagnosis sessions) with fuel potentially spraying/splashing around the engine bay...

This where the pipes join the fuel rail

Feed pipe from the tank where it changes from copper to rubber

Return pipe to tankwhere it changes from rubber to copper

Sorry to learn of your loss.

Those fuel pipes could be replaced by any competent mechanic. It may be worth asking on a local Facebook site if anyone can recommend one? You’ll find it easier to sell fixed rather than with a known fault.

Are Fernhurst still going? I thought they had closed, but on looking on Google they still have a website so perhaps they are still with us.
