Exhaust Mod - Wadding left in or taken out ?

I'm thinking of having the exhaust mod done, where the perforated section of the pipe is replaced with a solid straight-through section, but it would seem that some garages leave the silencing wadding in, while others take it out.

One explanation given to me for leaving the wadding in is that it stops noise from the exhaust resonating through the body of the car and into the cabin, so that all of it goes out the back as intended.

Does anyone have any thoughts and/or advice to offer on either option ?

Compromise and take "some" of it out, best of both worlds then, thats what Austec did with mine...

Mine has extra wadding shoved in around the sleeved pipes... sounds like a tugboat at idle

Canoe's leak less...

Doesn't matter - just get the perforated pipe out and replaced otherwise it will sound like you have the biggest turbo ever fitted - believe me I have learnt by experience.

Austec highly recommended for the job - in any doubt search out smaug.avi on Pistonheads or Yahoo search and you will be knocking down their door!!
