Speaker Components for the Chim!!

Hi There,
Don't laugh but I want to upgrade the speakers in my car so that the sound quality and response is better. I use the car every day and so sometimes a bit of music other than the glorious rumble of the exhaust is required.
I wondered if anyone could recommend good quality units to replace the Pioneer front and rears I have at present. I am using an Alpine headunit that I use for the tuner and my i-Pod connected via a Dension car kit.
I want to have something that looks discreet in my Magnolia and Navy interior?? Any suggestions??

I fitted some Infinitys yesterday and they fit and sound great.....took about 15mins to do.

I have a similar quest for better sound - going to pop out the front pioneers at the w/end and measure for replacement - but the rears are round and pod mounted so if I want to stick in 6x9's instead then I need to get new pods - anyone know where I can get them from ? and also I am assuming that to fit them I am going to have to screw them into/through the bodywork - any hints as to the best way to do it would be appreciated.

HH - erm can't remember - they were from Halfords of all places - Reference series with a small silver tweeter in the middle that you twist to point at you....will hunt out the number for you...
they were 5012i's I think

I replaced the front set of speakers a while back which made quite an improvement, but they were still not that clear when you are driving above 60mph. I think you are restricted on the choice of speaker because of the size.

So as a further improvement I had Carl Baker fit a pair of Alpine SPE 6903 (I think) to the rear which made a huge improvement and replaces those nasty plastic vents.

I was amazed to find out that the Chim is already wired for rear speakers, you just need to connect them up. Despite that I'd rather leave it to the experts.

As for head unit I've got the Pioneer 77 something or other which has a brushed alloy front and looks the business!

Hey scott,

upgraded to fusion 6.5 inch front and have rockford fosgate 6x9s in the rear all running off a 4 channel amp. The front doors can house a max size of 6.5 (with a bit of work with an angle grinder).

Used to work with my mate in a car audio shop and since your just down the road, i would love to give you a hand.

I think the rear speakers are wired up from the dashboard to the passenger door pillar, you just need to connect them from there. I'm afraid that I wasn't watching Carl when he was connecting them so I've no idea which wires are which

Scott cannot find the box so far, however they are the current 6x9 offerings from Infinity. From what I can tell from online searches, they handle 100w RMS. Will have another look for the box tonight.

i have dynaudio 5.25" components in doors(amped),with tweeters cut in(ouch),had a lightweight sub enclosure mounted above fuel tank in the boot with 2x JL 8" subs,using the rear vents for porting.sounds wonderful kicking out guns n roses,even at 100mph with sports exhaust,well handy too having subs hidden from view,and dont take up any extra space.job was done at N.I.C.E. 01603 666876

JL Audio Components.....with JL Audio 300/2 Amp. Very impressive sound for the size and accoustics of the car. If you add the JL Audio 8W7 8" Sub then you really are on for a winner.
